I would do soapstone. Much more appropriate for the log home.

The natural honey tones of the hickory look very good with a deep green or a deep blue colour. One of my favourite stones with maple, oak, cherry and hickory = Blue Pearl Granite. The next favourite = dark blue slate/soap stone; third favourite = green slate/soap stone. I'm not fond of greens which is why the green soap stone/slate is ranked as third.

With those slate-like floors, a green slate/soapstone (or mimic thereof) would look very good.

Check out a sample of Cambria quartz in the Durham color. I used it in our recent kitchen remodel. Pictures don't do it justice. (I love the look of soapstone too, but didn't want the maintenance/wear issues.) Durham is a dark charcoal gray with flecks of white and black and clouds of a taupe-y neutral color.

Jill - your kitchen looks gorgeous...

I know this post is several years old, but hoping you'll see this question! We have a log home and are remodeling our kitchen. We are looking for flooring similar to the one you posted in your picture. Can you tell me what specifically that is and where you purchased it? Thank you!
