Appliance Garages?

Those of you who have them - do you like? Or would you prefer to have that open space under that upper cabinet instead?

I have two and love them because they hide DH's messes.

I would like one, particularly if I was allowed to have the electric outlet inside the little garage. I understand that is not to code in some locations-just in case that changes your thinking…

anyone wanting to do that should check their local code. A friend of mine (AZ) had an outlet put inside her pantry closet in her kit. She has her toaster on a ROT in it and just plugs it in there, slides the ROT out to make her toast. then slides it in and unplugs it and shuts the door. She really likes it. I wouldn't do it if I had kids in the house, but there's just 2 adults there.

We had one in our previous house, a corner unit, and loved it. I'm not fond of countertop clutter. We don't have one now simply because we have no upper cabinets. If we did, I would have put one in again.

If you go to a deeper 30" counter it will be easier to find space for them.

I Must be in the minority. I had one in my old kitchen and did a little happy dance when it was hauled out the door. I prefer open counter space. Maybe it's different if you have a ton of counter space to spare but I did not. Everything I am not using I put in the super Susan.

As long as the appliance garage is not in the middle of a work zone and taking up valuable counterspace!

Thanks everyone. I just feel that the kitchen will look too bulky and heavy, so I'm going to scratch those. I will have two pantry cabinets on the side walls of the u kitchen. I don't like appliances out either - so plugs will be in there and shelf for the most used. What's a Super Susan?

A super Susan is a large corner cabinet with 2 swivel shelves that go back deep into the corner. I store large platters, bowls and small appliances in mine.

*seems like all of the photos are distorted?

I have an upper garage for the t.v.

Oh I see. My Mom had a super susan. seemed like things were still sort of lost back there. I will be having two pantry cabinets with some pull out shelves and some plugs - hoping to take care of microwave, toaster, tv and coffee maker and work station for computer within these somehow. Amanda - love love your pictures and your ingenious idea for your fave appliances. And the wall of windows. Beautifully done.

A corner pantry offers two 'walls' at counter height. Installing tambour doors accessing storage shelves inside would provide space for mixers, processors and toasters without any bulkiness. You need the right amount of kitchen space for that type of design.

I have a relatively smallish kitchen with a beloved garage with electricity. My coffeepot is always plugged in. Inside are coffee paraphernalia, blender, small processor, creamer, stir sticks, and lots of cutting boards. One of my kitchen faves. It is right next to my sink so I just pull out a cutting board without taking a step and fill the coffeepot with water. Not even a pivot!
