sink undermount. does cabinet size matter? 30 or 36

Hi, im planning to purchase new kitchen cabinets, SINK cabinet either 30" wide or 36" wide.

Im planning on an udnermount sink. does it matter what cabinet size it is?(does it mount to cabinet). Is it possible that a cabinet can be too wide?

i need to decide on cabinet size asap...doe to placement of new window. and id like the window to be alligned with sink.

I think you can easily do a 33" sink in a 36" base. Beyond that, you can get into having to modify the base.

the sink cabinet can be LARGER than the sink you are using. Do you have a sink selected? If it is a regular undermount, then it will show the required dimensions. Farm sinks require cabinet work to make them fit exactly.

no sink selected yet.

in regards to farm sink, the one from IKEA unfortunately isnt for undermount :(

I would never do a kitchen sink base less than 36". Any less will create restrictions in what sinks can be used over time.

If it's smaller, then the countertop and/or cross-braces will support it; if it's too big, it can't be used. Probably you don't want more than a 30" sink...

Under mount sinks are available in many sizes and typically mount to the underside of the counter top. Example. A 33" sink will be epoxied to the underside of granite and fit within a 36" sink base cabinet. The sink does not come in contact with the cabinet.

sorry, maybe I misspoke. I didn't mean you couldn't get a bigger sink in the base, just that 30" feels like a ton of sink already! :)

I'm leaning towards 36" width cabinet= more options. can go with smaller sink if i want...(a sink for a 30" width cabinet can be used in a 36" cabinet).
