Advice on Dining Rm Table Situation

Hi All - I’m hoping to get some advice on my dining rm table situation. We just moved into a new house that has a formal dining room and also a eat-in kitchen area. We currently own a formal dining table – it’s counter height (high-top), expresso finish and seats 8 ppl max. It would fit in the formal dining room just fine but at Christmas, we typically have 10-12 guests. So if I do that, we couldn’t use the formal dining room during these holiday gatherings. We’d have to get a larger table for the eat-in kitchen area and sit there and possibly spill over to the counter area instead. Let’s call that Plan A. OR, Plan B is that I put our current high-top table in the eat-in kitchen area and get a new table for the dining room that seats 10, possibly 12. I’d probably go with a lower table, maybe a white distressed farm table. My only concern with that plan is that if/when we have kids in the next year or two – the high table in the eat-in area isn’t ideal for kids. Any advice would be greatly appreciated - What would you do??
