I believe the rule is 60" from the *center* of the art piece to the floor. Try that - it'll probably get you to where you want to be. I agree with Lyvonne that some space between them would be good as well.

The main issue is the pictures are spaced too close together.

I agree that they are too close together, but I feel they are also too high. Lowering them 4-5 inches may not seem like much but it would give a better balance to the room. You have them hanging about midway between the ceiling and the couch, and they definitely need to be closer to the couch. The 60" rule is very subjective. Ideally, you want the middle of the picture to be eye level. What is eye level for you, and does it work with the rest of the room? This looks a little high for the average height person, and its certainly too high for the furniture in your space.

I like to just "eyeball" the height. (Sometimes is eye level or lower). If the sofa back is high, or low, it's different on how high to hang the art. Sooo..if there is more wall space between the top of the art to the ceiling than it is from the top of the sofa to the bottom of the art, it is too high. I would lower the art and center it a few inches apart above the sofa. Centering the art on the sofa will leave a "blank space" above the end table. Soooo, get a little bit bigger, taller fabulous "art piece" lamp on the end table.

Thanks for the comments. Yes. I know they need to come down - but question was to bring them 7" down (which would make the center of the prints 60 inches from the floor and about 13 inches above the couch) or 9" (which would make them 58" from the floor and 11" from the back of the sofa. Articles say to art need's to be no more than 10" above the sofa.

As far as them being too close together, they are about 3.5 inches apart. An article says they should be no more than 5" apart. Are you saying move them apart farther than that?

I think once you move them down they will work... the distance between them is fine if they are meant to work as 'one piece' of art.

Also - the couch is a sectional. so art isn't centered over the couch because couch isn't centered on wall. So I centered photos on wall instead of couch.

If you like the art pieces closer together then you should go with Darzy's suggestion and center them over the sofa but if you like more space between them go with Dytecture's recommendation but either way they do still need to go down a little more!

BREAK THE 60" RULE... and do away with some of the clutter.

Since your couch is a sectional, you can center the art between the left corner wall and the lamp on the right. It will feel "balanced".
