If it was me I would stain the floors dark paint all the oak a creamy white, get some metal stools get rid of the T.V cabinet hang the T.V. n the wall with a low wide cabinet for t.v. stuff a much largerDR rug with some colors in it that you can pull from for accents .The window coverings proably cost a fortune but would have been better in something other than beige. If you remove the 1/2 wall you will still need a railing or something there because of the step down so think about that. If painting it all is not in the cards I think just some of the things I mentioned will help. I think some shade of gray green will be a good accent too.

Oak is not a paint grade wood. People paint it all the time but the grain shows through. For many this is fine and fits the style they are going for - often a farmhouse style. Others want to get more life out of their cabinets with worn surfaces and paint is better than nothing. However, you kitchen and home are lovely. You are seeing the new homes with all the white, and it makes you feel you have too much wood. Painting it all white will be too much white. It will also look like oak that was painted white because that will be what it is. One reason builders like all the white now is it is much less expensive to paint inexpensive wood or MDF and slap it on as trim work. You have some very nice millwork around the windows and the baseboards.

You can paint some of it or see areas of oak that can be removed. For example, large paneled fridge can be replace with a nice stainless one - no panels. Replace other appliances as you can. Some of the raised panels of the upper cabinets could be replaced with glass. You have lots of cabinets - the wall of pantry cabinets (I am guessing because I can't see them well) could be partly removed and replaced with a white / cream hutch - same with the desk area - or the pantry cabinets removed and a built in pantry with a door instead. Island might be painted. Often I suggest painting trim work white and leaving cabinets wood, but that is really nice trim work.
