It would have been good for newbies to hear how to prep the soil, how to arrange bulbs for masses (nobody plants just one), what time of year to plant tulips, what parts of the country are best for tulips. The "little shovel" is called a trowel.

You could still cover all of the pertinent information within the time constraints.
