Hi there! I wouldn't bother with crown molding as you already have a lot going on architecturally with arches and such.....I think crown mouldings will just add to the busy-ness.

I also don't see where textured walls will really add anything to the look of your room...what I do see is maybe a more up to date wall color - something that will also get rid of all the "beigeness".

Your furniture looks neutral enough - and I'm not sure what colors are in your granite countertops - but the first color that comes to mind is a very light gray for your wall colors.

Paint, area rug in family room & dining, table & chairs - new seat covers?, there are many things you can do.

The room is boring., It is a sea of beige. Bring in some color, painting the wall another boring color will do nothing. Add some art, colorful pillows and some accessories. Pick a color...orange, turquoise, blue, rust...they will all work. Hang a nice chandelier over the dining table. You have a beautiful space. Enhance it.

Great bones....now you need some character and richness. Some nice wool rugs with an accent color (Pottery Barn) works well. Some pillows and accessories to repeat those accents (Home Goods). Scale is important. A few large items, rather than many small. Check this out...

I believe your house would look better with white-painted crown molding as white trim will brighten everything tremendously. I am not sure if you want to add woodwork around the arches, but you may want to consider it for a vintage look in your new home. Since you do not care for all the beige, I would suggest painting the walls a pale, fresh spring green. Nothing complements beige furniture and brown granite while bringing in the outdoors like a soft, neutral green.

Add a rug under table, a chandelier and a large picture.

You don't need to add paint, molding or any major overhaul. See how accessories can transform a room. Pick the pictures and rugs you like, I just gave you some examples.

I see the challenge of honouring the colors in the granite while bringing more contemporary colors into your space. Have a look at Benjamin Moore Navajo White for you wall color - hopefully, this - or something similar - will work well with the granite. Once you have your wall color worked out, I think you could then introduce gray plus a brighter accent color.

The collage below shows the Navajo White, plus gray in the rug and accent pillows - and a hint of red. I think I can see a smidge of red in your granite, actually. The rug is the wool/jute rug in gray from Pottery Barn. The patterned pillows are also PB, and the solid gray is IKEA.

Maybe a rd table in foyer with plant. Not sure how much room you have there. Just a thought. And some art on the hall walls.

I would paint the walls. The color is part of the problem. The BM Navajo White that karemore55 suggested would be very nice.
