Also add task lightening to the list. That is one dark room.

I agree with the above comment. Your mom needs some serious "editing" with a pro.

What kind of advice is your mother looking for?

Why don't you nominate your mom for the tv show Hoarders.
    She needs serious help.

I recently downsized and my craft room is about half the size as my previous one, but there are some great pictures and ideas here on houzz and also on Pinterest that can provide inspiration. Here are some with some suggestions to get you started.

Pegboard along one wall from floor to ceiling would provide lots of storage space. Some might see this as cluttered, but it's also great to have visuals of your supplies when you are creating, besides its a personal space right.

Use all the wall space you can for shelves, even spaces above windows and doors can have a shelf added.

If there is room a long corner desk works better than two separate desks as you can just roll the chair back and forth. Above pic is closest I could find to what I was thinking, but thought about something more open on bottom. Two slab doors configured in an L-shape in a corner would provide lots of work space. Myself, I find having the center of the room clear easier and more organized. I've tried a large desk in the middle of the room, and found I didn't like walking around it.

The room is dark, and kinda blah under the clutter. Your mom should add some of her personality and fav colours to the room so she loves being in there.

Having been through this recently with my father, the first step is to make sure she is on board with whatever plan you devise or you may end up with a very anxious, stressed out mother. And calling her a hoarder or teasing about it is unproductive and may only make matters worse.

i agree rouxb, whole heartedly, may very well not be accurate either. Never make snap decisions based on outside observations.

For goodness sakes ladies, this is obviously a joke!

Oh so, the dilemma is a joke? or what you said is a joke?

Let's see if the OP responds :)

Let's see if we can be responsive.

Ever, I am signing off this, because i do not get it is a joke. so if i should come back let me know. it is odd, i usually see them a mile away. My fear is too nonpositive too soon would stop response?

Yes, we don't know our OP at all and what that person faces. Be kind before anything else.

Dang.........Get a broom and don't stop sweeping until everything is out.......then have an organization plan before putting stuff back.

I think Tedbixby has the best plan of attack.....it will be sooo great when it's all organized and put away!

    who?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and comments! Yes I have also jokingly told my dad I was going to call hoarders when I saw this picture too! Lol

But in all fairness this was just taken after they just ripped up the rest of the upstairs laid hardwood floors and put up crown molding. So this is the last room that has to be tackled. And the rest of the house looks nowhere near anything like this room.

My mom has several quilting projects that she is doing several sewing projects also going on at the same time and she has a section for her Christmas Decor but she is selling on eBay. Believe it or not they have also had two or three garage sales which she has gotten rid of things.

And this is a collection of fabrics and Decor of 36 years of marriage and raising three children. Now that we are all out of the house it is time to get rid of stuff.

I think that is a great idea to hire a professional organizer to help her. I will definitely look into that for someone in her area. Thanks again! ;)

Compare the cost with the price of goats in your area.

Wow, what a sweet spirit. My mom was a saver of things. It's hard to help sometimes. I feel like you were slightly mistreated here, but you have risen above it. Kudos....For wanting to help your mom, and for taking it on the chin like a champ when you reached out for help.

Wow those are gorgeous craft rooms! She would be beside herself if we could accomplish that look!
Good luck, and yes you are sweet to tackle this. Hope your mom appreciates it and doesn't revert back to her old ways. My in laws are pack rats and never throw anything away. Have tried over the years to help, but very often it is more of a mental health condition, than a need for organization.

no pro needed, DIY!!! spend money on cabinets, shelves etc. Great ideas on pinterest! Take everything out,EVERYTHING!!! And organize in bins, totes and "again" ideas from pinterest specific to the craft. And then put it all back! Looks like you have a good size room to do what you want!! storage around the room walls and put the craft table in the middle! Good Luck!

pattyrsh - I think that you are putting more into some of these comments than what it actually is. No one, is saying that there is anything wrong with helping ones mom. If it was a picture of my home, or my dad's, my neighbor, my mom, etc...it would be the same comments.

This is not an attack. Stick around and look at some of the responses on some of the other posts. You have to be brave to post and take the heat. I applaud the folks that do.

@shir -- it's a lesson for me too, to post and involve myself, so fyi:

idiomatic To take the blame; to be the focus of anger or scrutiny; to take the consequences.

One does need a thick skin to post on the Internet. I don't think the posters on this thread were anywhere near as tough as on some threads, and on other , unmoderated Internet sites, I would never be brave enough. Houzz is safer, in my view.

chook I do like you, but I wonder why humor is something you'd use to make a point without knowing our OP better. Others do it too....

Just sharing a thread I was laughing at. Check it out!

Thanks chook! I'll laugh with you on another thread.

Love you, Debs, laugh with you anywhere!

Things 'get away from us' - might've been covered already, but what is main focus of her crafts?
