We plan to have herbs on the window sill. I wish we had better lighting...then I'd have more herbs!

Oooo thanks leela4! That thread is awesome! There is a website on there with wall kits. I'm actually kinda thinking that would work well on one side of our fridge. Amazinggggg

I have an extended kitchen windowsill of 5" depth for over-wintering my herbs. They survive but don't really thrive until they are outside in the summer. Enough to get fresh herbs for cooking though.

We managed to over-winter our herbs last year. Our window sills are 8" deep, so there's plenty of room.

The pictures you posted and Sochi's green wall are spectacular. I just wanted to point out that your green wall does not have to be in the kitchen per se. It can be at the entry or in sunroom - anywhere where there's space. In fact, I'd love to have a wall near entry -- visitors will be greeted with heady aroma of herbs! :-)

I'm glad that link helped; I think it's a cool idea, too. I always loved sochi's kitchen and design ideas.

I've tried many times over the years to winter-over herbs in my kitchen and on my sun porch. They rarely do very well. Aren't we lucky that one can easily buy bunches of almost any fresh herb at the local market!

I would start small, in terms of space & investment. Growing herbs indoor is not easy, unless, maybe, you've got a greenhouse.
