What color combinations would you suggest? Also, what are your thoughts on shutters? The asymmetry of the home is bothersome to me.

you could make it more symmetrical looking with shutters. if you do make sure they are in proportion to the windows and I would add to either side of entry door also.

If the brick and the upper portion of the house were painted the same color, it would help. I think that you would not need the shutters then - just paint the door.

On the left side, a nice small tree - like a Japanese maple, might look good,, surrounded by beautiful flowers.

Get rid of the white corbels and just do a heavier straight support that looks like it could hold up the roof. Do your trim in a soft cream or sage green or grey color.

Put in one big door with simple sidelights....you look like you are in the country.

Only shutter the two smaller windows

Add simple carriage lamps to garage area and front door

I think you could do with a landscpape architect to do a soft circular planting bed in front of the bay window too.

Shutters on smaller windows, single door with sidelights, distinctive planter under bay window, monochromatic color scheme. Everything matches something else on the house. Love teh slight color in the potted flowers by door. Understated and elegant applications.

lol..soosun made some of the additional suggestions I was going to make. on the posts get rid of existing corbals! and the door replaced with a divided light full glass door with side lights..great improvement. door could be a soft beige or a pale blue green. or a red.

What are your thoughts on a gabled entrance? Possible a metal roof for the entry? Also, what type of garage doors would you consider? Wanting consistency throughout the design.

I totally agree with changing the door to one with sidelights. If you want yo have a gabled entrance I would imagine that you would need an architect. I like the farmhouse look that you have now.

Get a professional landscaping plan, some porch furniture, new lights, etc.

a gable would add a more contemporary feel but would not be a quick inexpensive project. it would require the upper window to become a dormer. I would leave it alone.

As others have said the corbels

need to go. The above post with the garage doors is exactly what i was thinking, but furthermore you need to change out the white posts with nice 6x6 cedar posts to match the garage doors, with brick bottoms to match the lower part of the house. (Easy to do, and it is not that expensive.). Then i would plant a garden in front of the lower left window and have some edging added to enhance the walk to the front door. You need some grass as well as i show in this picture...
