My guess = chemical smell = plastic. The plastic liners/rubber seals and the plastic water lines inside the unit = chemical smell/taste. I've smelled this/tasted this before. It doesn't go away. The chemical taste might get stronger as the plastic hoses start to deteriorate (plastic breaks down = smell or taste).

Without gutting the thing and adding new tubing/plastic/rubber lining and seals...this will remain until the unit is disposed of. Contact Fridgidaire to see if they have a quick solution. You are not the original owner so the warranty is not valid (almost all warranties go to the "original purchaser" and are non-transferable).

A sad thought: most appliances have a life span of 7 years. At 6 years old, this may not be an issue for much longer.

What you said sounds perfectly logical. When you said plastic, it's kinda what it smells and the water taste like that as well.
I'll call frigidare and see what they say, but after reading your comment, if no help from frigidare, I'm just going to get rid of it.

When I googled many people said even after 2-3 repairmen came, and hundreds of dollars, they still had no solution.
I'm gong to bypass all that and get rid of it.
I can't stand the smell and taste.

And wow, a life span of 7 years?!
I remember appliances lasting 15-20 years!
I still have an old tv in my basement that still has a good picture.
