New furniture and brand new chandelier. I have 30 days to return the chandelier. I love it but wonder if it is too big?

I think there are too many tiers and the metal is too dark. Here are some lighter and more delicate options that will work better with the feminine chairs. Top one in the $200 range and bottom one in the $3,000 bracket! Its from Lamps Plus and they have more in all price ranges.

The size is OK, the style is wrong. I would go with something more classic or just softer, curved for this Dinning set...

I like your chandelier, don't change it. Look for a larger piece of art, maybe in some more vibrant colors and add décor to the middle of the table. The runner makes the table look old fashioned and the fixture is quite modern. Make those changes and if you still have concerns about the light then re-group. You will need new art whether you change light or not, so do that first.

The problem with the art(changing it) is --it is an original oil I purchased. Do you think changing the chandelier to a more classic design and smaller would allow me to keep the painting where it is?

Yes, and I like the first one decoenthusiaste suggested.

You said you love the fixture. Right? Can we move the painting to another wall? Maybe by window? Opposite the window, I don't know what's on that wall but looks big enough to hold that piece. The art is too small for that wall, yes you can get another chandelier, but the art will still look too small and It's NOT the fixture.

Chandelier is lovely and the artwork is too, but your walls are way too light for them. The baby blue does nothing for this room. You need to go much darker in order to showcase both. And as much as I don't care for gray, I think a dark gray would look stunning in this room. It should be fairly easy to repaint just the area above wainscoting. The wainscoting itself is fine.

An easy inexpensive fix if you should decide to keep the chandelier and the art, would be to add 2 rectangle mirrors on each side of the art. A dark frame around them to match the table.

Susan, what software do you use, please? I'd like to find one that's idiot (me) proof.

Here is what I mean about the wall color. You don't need to go as dark as some of these but I think repainting would make a huge difference.

I think the chandelier and the wall color are lovely..you have a soft and elegant room. Your artwork could be placed on a smaller wall, as it's a bit small and not the right shape for that space and maybe consider a bit of glam (to comp your fixture) with a mirror. In the evening, the reflection in the mirror and your tiny crystal drops will make it look like a jewel box! Just an additional commet, I would remove the runner for a more elegent look and add some crystal or mercury glass for your centerpiece.

I love mercury glass but didn't know I could use it with bronze(in the chandelier). Also, I always thought I HAD to have runner. Who knew? Thanks for the ideas. Do you think I could add something to either side of painting. The other wall I have those hanging candle holders(given to me by my daughter-in-law) and the remaining wall heads into the kitchen. You would be right on top of the painting and wouldn't do this original art justice due. What could I add? Marylou

I think your room is gorgeous! Please don't change that lovely paint color. I think the chandelier is fine, just change out your centerpiece for something with a bit more sparkle, like the mercury glass that Maureen suggested. The painting is prob a bit small, but it's an original and you love it, so it's fine... : )))

Thanks so much. My husband just painted it this misty blue about 2 weeks ago. It had been a dark gold! I still had a cherry traditional table and chairs from 30 years ago. This table and chairs I got at RH.

You can hang some frameless mirror on each side. I like the ones that are broken up not just solid mirror.

I thought your set was from RH, really beautiful. I was in Pottery Barn yesterday and they had a lot of mercury glass candleholders, xmas trees, spheres and the like. An assortment of a few things would look beautiful on the table. Imo you shouldn't add anything else to the wall that the painting is on, it just seems to junk up the classy, peaceful vibe you have going....

I like that idea! At night the chandelier(on dim) sends colors all around the room. It looks like a water fall.

If you don't mind paying an electrician, adding wall sconces on either side of the art would be really nice and fill up the wall. Or just leave as is...it's fine. You can mix metals, but if you don't like to do that, there is a lot of mercury glass that has less gold.

Make sure the fixture hangs at 27 inches from the table. That's a basic rule. Art work is gorgeous but could be relocated to make place to a larger piece.

I find those hanging candle holders to be distracting but do like the chandy here. Is there somewhere else that you could move the candles and then put the flower painting on the smaller wall and find a larger piece for the long wall?

Love it! you can always change up the tabletop and art on the walls.....don't overthink it. Just have a dimmer on the light, would be night-time gorgeous then.

Nice chandelier, nice ceiling - artwork not so nice, but you are getting good advice. What are those 3 things on the other wall, they seem out of place. Do you have a buffet on the wall that we cannot see.

I have a dimmer! My husband says I am doing exactly that(overthinking). I have never had any crystals because I associated them with my mother-in-law's fake fancy one. I can really appreciate real crystals. I don't mind eclectic looks. In fact, I prefer a mix of modern and traditional but not sure I am always carrying it off.

Ilove the chandelier and think the proportion is just right. A good rule of thumb is half-2/3 the size of the table but every room is a little different. This looks good. While you only asked about the chandelier I do think the room could use a little tweaking. I would remove the table runner and let the beauty of the chandelier reflect in the polished wood of the table. I also think the room needs a little "weight" to it to support all the light colors. Perhaps a trim on the leading edge of the draperies. I would add a second piece of art, same size and genre, next to the piece you have to fill that wall with color and group your hurricanes in the middle of the table or, better yet, find a large bowl and fill it with items of the season i.e. pinecones in the fall, greens during the holiday season, glass balls etc throughout. Choose something that will nicely compliment other pieces in the room but have, again, some weight to them. Something like this from Pier 1 could be interesting.

There is no need for the symmetry you have created on the table and just does not make much sense. But the room is beautiful and you have a good start. Have fun

The three things on the wall are in bronze and from Finland. My daughter-in-law is Finnish. There is a wonderful store there called Pentik. They have quality products. The Finns have many hours of darkness in the winter and absolutely love, love, love candles. These have votive candles in them. Finns have candles on their porches and in their houses from October until March. I love my daughter-in-law and need to hang these!!!!

I think you have beautiful taste. I l I get the chandy... art is a bit small. try three pieces if art hung symmetrically. .. out the centerpieces in the middle ... tier them so they have multiple heights. candle sticks in diff sizes on a large charger..... would also use a larger runner that hangs over both sides of table. =))))

To Dh Design and everyone! Thanks so much for your help. I love the bowl /basket from Pier 1. The runner is gone!!!!!! The hurricanes are in the middle of the table with a beautiful piece of pottery until I get either the bowl or some mercury items. I still can't believe I can just plop them on the table. Old habits are hard to shed. I thought you had to have a runner or place mat, etc.

Is it possible to move the chandelier down a few inches more?
Love the artwork in the room. Is it possible to get a second one by the same artist and the same size, and hang two of them together on the wall? Or hang matching beveled and framed mirrors on either side of the painting.

The chandelier is 29 and 1/2 inches. I googled the height and they recommend 30 to 34 inches from the table and to add 3 more inches if you have a higher ceiling. My ceiling is 9 feet. So I think it is about where it should be according to what I have read. I just got back from the stores looking at mirrors. I may do what you suggest and contact the artist and see if she could make me something compatible. I don' want to put a "fake" picture next to an "original". Thanks for the suggestion.

I love the votives they are spectacular. It is too bad you don't have two more and then I might try them on the long wall taking up 2/3 of the wall and place the art where the votives are now; might be a better fit. The chandy is just the best; go big or go home! Love it love it love it.

The art is competing with the light fixture which I think looks great! Try removing art and replace with a beautiful bronze framed mirror. Also remove hurricane from table and replace with one large blue decorative bowl to complement wall colour.
    Marylou thanked joyallen1

The chandelier is stunning. Agree that the art could be competing with it. Have you tried taking the art down from the wall? Would love to see a picture without art on the wall. Consider making the chandelier the "star!"

I have a mirror on the wall that you walk through to kitchen. So I am hesitant to have another mirror. I have ordered from Ballard 4 plaster square magnolia plaques(two would go on each side of the magnolia painting. The plaques are hand cast and have dimension. Not sure if this will work. Still looking for other possibilities for either side of the painting. Once you step into the room the painting looks fine but a little lonely. I did put a blue/ brown piece of pottery in the middle of the table but I don't think it is big enough. One person suggested a trio of mercury glass pieces. I do like that idea as well as the big blue bowl that I could put seasonal things into.

@Marylou, Have you updated the room? Would love a photo.

Currently in Florida. Will send the middle of Feb. Magnolia plaques added definitely to each side of picture. Also took one suggestion and added trim to the leading edge of drapes. Plus moved my olive jar out of living room and took out sticks and added softer grasses and colored eucalyptus branches and placed it in corner. I removed runner and now trying different things in the middle of table. Still not sure I have that right but looking at these old pictures overall a huge improvement. Thanks to everyone out there. I will also send updated living room and foyer.
