Since I've planted my fall blooming camellias, I am finding that I actually kind of look forward to late fall and cooler temps that accompany it. Here are a few blooming now right now. Most are sasanqua hybrids bred by the late Dr. Ackerman and have C. oleifera as one of the parents.

Winter's Fire (usually these blooms have flares of white). This can bloom on and off through January if the weather stays mild for a stretch. Large blooms about 3 to 4 inches wide.

Winter's Star (this one got just a bit of damage last winter -- probably because it got morning sun). It seems to have bounced back, but it's a very established plant. Should have given it more shade I suppose.

Snow Flurry. I actually bought this years ago on sale, and stuck it way in the back. I wish now that I had given it more prominance. It's really a nice one with double white blossoms produced in profusion! Hardy too. I moved it early this summer after something else died. Photo is washed out. Sorry.

C. oleifera - a very hardy camellia species still grown for its fine oil in China. This is growing in quite a bit of sun and still has not gotten damaged although the leaves bronze a bit. It has done well, unlike the 'Yuletide' growing next to it, which died way back. Yule is a zone 7B plant and not good up here without more protection and shelter.

Ashton's Supreme is a deep pink one. Quite hardy. It has been growing slowly but surely for me.

Ashton's Ballet is a soft pink, more formal double at first. Nice and hardy.

Leslie Ann. I think I've posted this one before. Time will tell how hardy it is. It's only been in the ground one winter.
