online appliance purchasing

I am about to do a kitchen reno and need all new appliances. I can save over $1000 by purchasing at goedeker's vs. local HD or appliance store.

At what point is it worth it to take the risk of buying online? It's about $1200 cheaper than HD and about $1600 cheaper than local appliance shop to go Goedeker's.

That's a lot of money!

Make sure that the cost covers shipping. You want it delivered to your garage, unloaded by the driver (lift gate truck). You should be prepared to inspect for damages before signing.

Don't order too early in the project - usually the warranty begins on the day you take delivery.

Sometimes Lowes of HD will price match online places. You can to pay tax but get free delivery. It doesn't hurt to ask...

This isn't related to appliances but light fixtures. I found some gorgeous Designer$$$ lights that I wanted. Home Depot sold them. However I found them for a couple hundred cheaper at an online place. The lights arrived damaged and scratched. The company would not refund them because they had already been installed before noticing the scratches. Home Depot would have taken them back. We are out the money for the lights. Definitely not worth the money I saved. So Double check the return, repair and warranty policies.

Best Buy also matches prices. The advice on the warranty is good advice.

How soon will they be used? Don't know exactly? If you had to store them in the garage for the next year or two, would you be OK with that?

If possible find out who Goedeckers is using for fulfillment. Several years ago I had wanted to use an East Coast supplier (better prices) and I found out they were using a particular company in Los Angeles to handle their fulfillment. Many people had problems with that company-not the least of which was the inability to return anything.

I ended up buying locally because I just didn't want to take a chance that I wouldn't have the items when I needed them or would have to store them for a long time. Also the possible damage issue. I ended up shopping around a lot and paying only about $150 over online prices- plus tax. That ended up being a total of $500 difference and we decided it was worth it.

My appliances are in and being held for me at the local store's warehouse and hopefully I will take delivery in about 2 weeks.

We have bought all our appliances from Abt for fifty years with zero complaints. I see that they sell online now, too. I would trust them completely.
