Vanity side splash

Readers I need your help. I'm in the process of getting my bathroom renovated and I'm torn between getting a side splash or not. Anyway, seems there was a miscommunication between me and my contractor because I thought side splash is already a given, but he said it wouldn't look balance and it's better without it. At this point, I feel he may have just said that because he does not want to do the extra work. What do you all think? Side splash or not on the vanity?

Sorry this info is coming after the fact instead of before.

You could have stopped the pebble tile, (IMO a questionable selection for this installation) with an extruded matching plastic strip instead of the wide border tile, or you could have ended the pebbles with a very narrow feature strip.

I have illustrated on your photo how the trim strip or trim stone could have been installed instead of the wide ceramic tile that was used.

The current stone is visually clumsy with the wide border tile, and if you attempt to turn the corner it will only look worse so I agree with your installer's opinion.

For these free standing vanities, I have run the backsplash across the back and not the side.

the existing bullnose because he stated it would match with the tub. Since it's difficult for me to visualize I went with his recommendation not knowing it would look bulky. It's really difficult to visualize how it would look until it's layed out. I just came home one day and he's already installed the backsplash.

I guess too late now at this point. I'd just go with no side splash. Thank you for your comment. Wish I would have come here to seek out advice, but I've just been so busy with work plus the renovation. It's been a stressful few weeks.

Every time you go through a renovation you learn something, but unfortunately it's usually at your own expense.

Short answer: you're fine with no sidesplash. Move on, and enjoy your lovely new bathroom!
