Now then pots, POTS.....Good reminder buddy, I need to buy a couple for the new trees and make space in my tent although I am already thinking of another slightly bigger tent in the future as my collection is growing although I have multiples of a few varieties of seeds I have sown so will off load some of them when bigger which will create space.

Interested to see how Dino's seeds do as I think you got some that looked pretty big even at 2 weeks old?

So my parcel will be shipped 25th November so I will have trouble sleeping until it lands I guess lol

Should be fine Phil. Sounds like you did the foot work to be informed.

If you have a source for pots close by. Maybe wait until they come. I ended up using larger temporary pots (not my favorite) to get them established, then in spring will get better ones.

The Diamond K & Q seeds are doing well to date. They are putting on another set of leaves since posting photo, so I am hoping they continue. Have to say, when you plant 24 seeds and all come up within 5 days, this is good seed.

I can understand your anxiousness about the arrival of your new acquisitions. That is the nice thing about EMS shipping. Once posted you can follow it's progress on your UK Postal as well as the Thai post. I was able to see where it was right to clearing customs and released to our Postal service.

Both are marvelous selections, Phil! Looks like they both have the trained roots, not to be confused with Centipede trained. The Peth Dino looks to have darkening branches, it may be a dark skinned TS! Love the skin on your Dino King. This is one of my favorite cultivars so far. The tracking number that he gives you on the 25th will be the same all the way through UK Post as well. I am so thrilled for you. I think you will be the only person in the UK that has Dino's trees. He only recently began shipping internationally. Jericson encouraged him to ship worldwide, so we can thank him dearly!

To be honest I am still very new to selecting fine specimens and not totally sure on all the things I am supposed to look for. The first pic I chose purely for its symmetry /uniformity and the Dino King I liked the light coloured skin but other than that there was no science behind the selection lol I just liked the looks. The roots looked a bit different too like you mentioned tracy.

I have also been informed these trees are approx 18months old, wowzers! Brilliant, absolutely brilliant :-)

I really like the skin on my Dino King also, Phil. The Black RCN has a somewhat similar skin, but with dark tones.

They have the virgin roots and decorated roots which is just thinning of existing roots for balance. Then there is the centipede, where the bottom cut off and new roots grown around the circumference of caudex. They are just flat on the underside. Some of the roots on these are thinner out a bit.

Thanks for posting this detail, Rick. Good information. These trees of Phil's are possibly the decorated roots where they have been thinned and allowed others to take over in size.

Oh no, Phil, you, too? The feared "Dino Disease" has come to Europe and the UK?! The disease that turns owners into adeniums themselves! I have said it before. To prevent the disease from spreading, the particular adeniums owned by members of this forum should all be shipped to Denmark. As quickly as possible. The climate around here will restrict growth and limit - or possibly prevent - the disease from spreading further. Phil, you already have my address... ;-)

Martin - if you saw me then you would realise these adeniums are far nicer looking than myself lol so am happy to be afflicted with the Dino condition lol

I could send you some of my seeds I will be getting from Dino so your not left out ;-)

Someone who lives in NJ should buy one of these things so I can drive up and see one for myself lol

Hi Phil, nice purchases there, it will be interesting to follow their progress. Where are you thinking of getting your pots from if you don't mind me asking? I find that the only type I have seen are the terracotta ones in garden centres that are not as deep as the regular plant pots we generally see, more like a half pot kind of thing. I did buy one of those oblong black ceramic bonsai pots a while ago with a matching shallow tray for one of my treasures, but I underestimated the size of the plant I had in mind for it and it was WAY too small. It's around 2x5inches, and cost over a fiver, so goodness knows what the big ones cost? Its still unused btw! I have seen little in the way of shallow planters, either plastic/terracotta/ceramic in my area that would be suitable for adeniums or any other plant come to think of it as bonsai stores are few and far between here in the sticks, in fact I have yet to see one, how about you?

Hiya Gill - there is a bonsai specialist about 35 mins drive away from me, I'm fact I.have his beginner bonsai dvd lol. If you Google John Hanby Bonsai Wakefield it should bring his website up although I don't think he lists his pots on there for sale? Gonna check out the local garden centres for pots but might have to settle for a plain terracotta bowl type pot until a nice pot catches my eye lol as I want to house these trees in a special pot to finish there look off.

Prob best waiting until they land so I can gauge the actual size as Rick mentioned so not to waste cash on wrong size pots, but I can go look to see what's on offer and how much they are in the meantime :-)

Bummer Dino is unable to ship to the UK until his farm has passed inspections from his government of agriculture which might take some time :-( so no trees for me then :-(

Phil, I am sorry to hear that. :-( I thought his nursery was approved...

This must be his Agriculture Dept. having to approve sending to the UK, but it sounds as though it is something that has to be cleared for UK Department.

I am sure it will happen.

Yeah that's pretty much it Rick, he said it might take 1 month of maybe 3 months? Who knows but he said he will be in touch once he gets the ok. In the meantime he is checking wether he can send me seeds, so I await the answer.

Martin - I assumed he was approved with him already sending to others in various locations. At least once it's sorted I know that I will be one of the first it not the first person to have his trees here in the UK :-)

Sorry to hear the news Phil, I hope it can be sorted soon and you get your plants before the real cold winter weather sets in. Looks like the predicted effect of storm 'Barney' is beginning to show as the wind speed is increasing here. I was in Shrewsbury at the weekend and the Severn's flood defences were being installed in readiness for the rain that's forecast. I hate this time of year.

Phil, if you can import plants (with an official/approved phytosanitary certificate) from outside the EU, you probably can import a small amount of seeds without a certificate. I don't need a certificate when buying seeds from Thailand. Plants are a different story (phyto certificate and an actual plant inspection in Denmark).

Gill - yeah its a bummer but am just waiting on a full refund and then when its sorted he will let me know :-)

Martin - Cant remember the seller now but I ordered seeds from someone and the ticket on the outside said 'Beads' on the description lol.......wonder if this was a way to get round the not supplying a phyto issue lol......whatever it was I got the seeds but maybe I got lucky?
