Would you be interested in moving away from the blue accent color? Don't do a 1.5 chair! You already are stuck with the bulk of the sectional. Try another single chair. Maybe a swivel chair would work.

A chair that doesn't look too heavy, but not too small either would be good with the big bulky sectional.

Or with wooden legs if you prefer...

This Rug maybe? Pattern and colour seem to relate to your ceiling and the kitchen colour. Would be nice to see more of your room and adjoining room(s). Your bar stools, that we can see a glimpse of I think, look to be a different style than your living room furniture.

I will never understand big black ugly sectionals that swallow up a room. Ever wonder why you don't see this in AD, Traditional Home or Veranda as good design? Its not. If you want to spruce up this room, donate the sectional to Goodwill, if they will take it, and purchase furniture scaled to the room. Better yet, put it in the basement for the kids to use.

I really like the room and the balance and dimensions and the chair and rug! I think you need more accessories to add livliness to the room.

1. Above picture I think you should really do something bold to balance out the black sofa. But I love the chair and the rug, so add pillows, and some warm wood pieces possibly lamps and I think painting a wall in a lighter version or darker version of an accent color you adore.

2. Above picture is all blacka and white but cream and black rug and lots of natural wood and leather in wood tone and a tree and wood tone and cream pillows.

3. Above Go big or go home! This chair and fabric is to love! Dynamite in your room; will balance the sofa.

Thank you all for the great suggestions! I definitely like the natural fabrics, woods etc but feel like every item I like is gray/tan so I am encouraging myself to pull in some colors. The couch is a walnut brown and yes it's obviously big and bulky. We're not trying to win any awards over here at this point, lol. Moved in recently- slowly getting accessories. Dining room is next so hope to get more ideas on this great app!

I like groveraxle's chair and rug plan, and I think the blank white wall needs something to warm it.

Lots of male energy in the room, needs a little female energy to balance things, maybe with a painting, maybe some textured pillows?
