My flowering office plant is going on 2 weeks now and the flowers are still beautiful--a dark purple with white edges. ( My addiction has taken over 2 large windows at home and has moved to the office.) Looking forward to seeing the others you are growing.

Te home Depot ones are usually Optimara. They will eventually bloom much better, with blooms held in a bouquet above the leaves. Joanne

No names. That is why the eight of them were only $22 with free shipping. The shipping, by the way, was perfect...I have never seen better care in packaging.

That inspires me for when I donate as I find it difficult to keep things labelled.

Joanne - make a catalog with photos - so when you lose the label - you still can recognize the variety. Otherwise - it will be the case of Bouldergrower purchase - stunning definitely named varieties - but names lost. Poor orphans...

How pretty! I think you may have 'Bride's Bouquet'. I've been watching some of their double whites on Ebay & there's also EK 'Tsaritsa Magnolia' that is very similar. Another pretty white is 'Ma's Pillow Talk' but it's leaves have TL variegation. When you are ready to share it's leaves please let me know & I'll send names of starter plants & leaf pairs I have that I could trade.

The following is an interesting statement by the eBay seller:

"THESE ARE NOT TO BE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIED OR FOR RESALE. There are thousands of African Violets that can look similar and there is no way to properly identify them unless labeled from start to finish."

After my very brief experience starting these plants from leaves, they grow well and bloom profusely two times. Then they kind of "peter out" so I just cut three leaves to root and throw the plant out. I really don't have room for lots of plants and don't want to mess around with plants that aren't blooming well...any comments?

Actually, you probably identified the plant exactly. I just thought the seller's comment was interesting or unusual. I will certainly save some leaves for you when I think it is time to renew the plant.

The buds of another of the eight are just opening. The seller seems to have picked an interesting selection. One that hasn't bloomed yet has heavily variegated new leaves.

According to what I have read, I am supposed to wait for them to bloom in their 2" pots before repotting into the next size larger pots. These will go into 4" pots since that is all I have.

You can use Greek yoghurt cups as 3" intermediate pots. Just make the holes. Some of the smaller standards never need 4" pots - 3-3.5" pots are enough. But seems that you treat them so nicely - and they grow so vigorously - you probably will be in 4" pots in no time.

Number 3 is blooming...interesting color.

These colors don't come out right under fluorescent lights. Here is Number 3 again and Number 4, which is a pale lavender.

Of course, the computer monitor has something to do with the colors but these look about right on mine.

Brown Flowers - that's new!

It is the camera - it doesn't adjust to the light "temperature". I am pretty happy with my Smartphone camera - in all default settings it does pretty good job. I just got a tripod head for cellphones to keep it steady.

Anyway - your young plants are happy, healthy and blooming.

Irina, are you referring to number 3 that looks brown? On my smart phone it looks deep wine red with a green edge on the top petals, white on the bottom. Most unusual and attractive! Joanne

The colors on Number 3 are pretty accurate on my high resolution monitors. It is brownish red...I suppose.

Aha - so is it my cheap ViewSonic monitor that changing the color of #3 to brown? Nope - just checked it on Galaxy 5 cellphone... It is a reddish brown. Hmmm...

If it is a wine color - I would call it port...

Number 6 is another attractive two-tone bloomer with somewhat variegated foliage. The photo color, in natural light, is correct this time.

Number 7 is another nice one but not very many buds.
