Freecycle descriptions

I have two bookcases to give away. The description: "36wx72h, standard office-supply inexpensive, dark fake wood finish."

So why does everyone want a picture?

I'd want a picture to be able to gauge for myself overall condition, and whether or not it would be worth my time and effort to go and pick up such large pieces. I don't think it's an unreasonable request for such large items that may require some people to have to borrow or rent a truck, as well as enlist the help of a friend (or friends) to move.

We have not done a lot with Craig's List and only sold items but always provide a pic with the listing. I occasionally search for things on there to see what is being sold, but if there is not a pic I never even click on it to check further.

I read the OP post too quick - We have listed items on Free Cycle also and have always provided a picture on there as well.

I find that putting stuff on the curb with a sign that says free plus a craigslist posting with my address, a minimal description of the items and no way to contact me works like a charm. Everything disappears in under twenty four hours with very little effort on my part.

Because they want to know the condition and "dark" can mean different things to different people.

They want,to know if they are picking up bookcases or firewood :-)

We are too far out in the sticks and at the end of the road for curb-side trash to work. And we are too far off the road to haul them down there. These have always been indoors, never exposed to the elements. They are in find condition. And someone has asked for them without a picture. I was just wondering what was wrong with my description.

I think it's great you put a description and dimensions. However I always want to see photo of the actual item. Free makes no difference to me. Sadly, on our CL free is sometimes code for garbage. (Not saying your bookcases are!) Dark, standard, and other descriptions mean different things to different people. The larger the item the larger the whole project pick up is. And when people post grainy and dark photos I've been known to ask for better ones.

Including a picture doesn't cost anything. I want to see what it is you're giving away. I don't click if there's no picture.

Giving away something for nothing requires you to do something to earn nothing.

Not exactly nothing, as they are hauling it away.

Considering how far out you live, I think it would be best to share pictures. Someone needing things for free, more than likely can't afford to take the chance on wasting gas on the possibility that the bookcases are not worth it. They don't know you, so it's a trust issue. Seeing is believing

It's not always a need, sometimes or most times it's the motivation to re-purpose an item. I removed a nearly new 9 drawer dresser from neighbor's garage (after listed on local buy/sell/FREE page). I'm repainting it purple and blue. It will hold grandson's Star Wars memorabilia.
