I love to use lighting as an accessory vs a necessity and our home has a real mix based on the feeling I want in the room. One time, I wanted a chandelier so badly while attending an auction at an estate they were going to be tearing down that I waited from 9:00am to 5:00pm for it be put up. Just as important as the lighting are dimmers!

If you're doing a story on this, you should put in tips for those of us with existing wiring and no enthusiasm for the kind of drilling, patching and painting that rewiring would entail.

I don't know if it's the "CENTER" of my design, but certainly one of the important parts. Each part of a house from the design, build, mechanics, materials, flow, decor, windows & doors, roof, etc. are all important. How it all flows together, durability, energy efficient, blends with the land and the area and is an extension of the owner(s) should be the overall focus. Take any one part out - and something is missing.

I like a lot of options in a room so I can move things around and change things up. I am not a big fan of overhead ceiling lights in the center of the room....To me those are simply for turning on to make sure everything is clean! Give me lots of lighting options...and I am happy.
