I wondered too if too much above the bed. Makes sense it would be out of balance. Wouldn't that standing lamp maybe work on the other side of the bed? I thought a picture above the nightstand would have more on that side and nothing on the other creating an imbalance?

I like to read a little before I go to sleep. Is there a possibility of a lamp for that? How about a place to recharge my cellphone?

Bevballew, it would be an imbalance if the layout was symmetrical... but the layout is asymmetrical, and with the bed being of heavier weight the art work behind the lamp on the night stand creates balance by adding more weight to that side of the wall.

I always tell people to mount their window treatments from the ceiling or crown moulding down to the floor. It gives height and drama to the room. Your picture proves that point! Great job! Wall art and a chair in corner will complete the room. If you don't need the ceiling fan, I would bling it up with a crystal chandelier.

The picture I've attached shows how wallpaper on the headboard wall serves as art - I could see this idea working in your bedroom as well.
I also like the idea of a bench at the foot of the bed.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions! I have posted a picture of the wall opposite the windows and another showing the latest accessory additions. Am thinking of hanging a collection of botanicals to wall above cradle, but am open to other suggestions.

I like tall mirrors above nightstands. (used in my own master BR) A picture grouping above the crib would be nice and a chair in the corner with the floor lamp. A decorative greenery floral swag/door topper over the bed would be nice too. (swag suggested because the bed and furniture has a vintage/romantic look. If this was modern, I would never have suggested it)

I think that the mirrored dresser is enough of a statement. It does not need plates. The plate collection should stand on its own. It is overwhelming when put around the mirror. If you are keeping the cradle then consider putting the plates on that wall

I agree with curacaoblue, no plates are needed. I would also put nothing above the headboard. It has a beautiful design all by itself and does not require ornamentation.

Now the wall with the crib is another matter. There you have a big blank wall. You can have fun with that one, adding prints, or plates or mirrors. They just need to be artfully arranged.

I think that if the room could be seen as a whole... the wall with the dresser and plates would look proportionate to the rest of the room and make sense to the viewer. I think you did a very nice job with the hanging and the room is coming together nicely. I think the wall to the right of the bed would be a great wall to do a collection of either art or maybe family photos in varying sized frames.

I think the floor lamp could work between the chair and the dresser... set closer to the chair.

The plates are too busy around the dresser. Not sure why plates in a bedroom. Two prints of a similar nature, one on each side of the dresser in white frames would be pretty. A grouping of pictures or photos would be nice above the cradle, maybe three equally proportioned. Can you put a nightstand on the other side of the bed and then add a picture. I agree nothing above the bed. Or maybe a pretty rectangle mirror above the cradle or a grouping of mirrors like the sun burst ones that are popular. I have seen a grouping of mirrors that resemble each other but are different in a grouping of three that are of the sunburst look, usually round, something similar to the mirror that is in the picture above by welcome home designs. It was so striking and just beautiful. Maybe the standing lamp behind the chair and a cute picture to create a grouping.

I think the reason for the reaction to the plates is because of how in the photo there appears to be a lot of contrast. If the plates had a more mellow appearance like those in the that Cjohnson contributed, I think the reaction would be different. I think it is important to keep in mind that colors and light/darkness on the computer screen are not accurate to the actual space. That is why you cannot select colors based on photos you see online.

You will have to make the determination if the plates you have are too "white" for the space. I still say, again, that you have to view the room as a whole to make that determination. My experience says that it will be balanced out with the white drapes and the white spread and metal bed.

Okay, I'm willing to rethink things. Having seen cjohnston's post of the plates above a bed, I think that those plates work because they relate to the colors used on the bed above which they appear. So Terri is probably right that the reason we don't like the plates in the location over the dresser is what she refers to as the contrast. I'd say it's because the plates don't relate to the dresser's color. Same idea, just stated slightly differently. The upshot is that I think jblake should try her plates over the bed
following the lines of the bed.

All Victorian white bedding would look good here. Four pillows at back of bed with two small contrasting pillows in front with printed material. Victorian period is dictated here with the wash unit. Can have patterned roller blinds and cushions same material on bed. Gold Victorian wall lights on both sides of bed would be nice, with draw strings. If blinds were patterned then long curtains with swags and tie backs in plain material or else have plain blinds and patterned curtains on dark wooden poles or gold poles.

The plates would do better above the crib opposite the window in similar shape if you use them at all - kind of passe even for a modern Victorian adaptation.. Print or painting would be better to add some movement to the room Tthe headboard of the bed os so ornate and high I really don't think anything is necessary above it

I don't think that plates on walls are passe.

To me plates are very country or Victorian which I do not like at all so that is why I say no to plates. But it is your house and what you want and like. That is what makes the world interesting. Everybody has different taste.

Don't know what to do about plates around dresser so I'm working on the other wall. What about 6 botanicals framed like the one in picture attached ? Should the frame be darker? Is the arrangement out of proportion to the cradle?

I would frame the botanicals to match the wood of the cradle. I think the botanicals need to be just a little bit larger. If they were 1 x 1" larger, they'd look great.

I would add bamboo roman shades - mount them inside the window frames. You can pick them up anywhere and they shouldn't set you back much. I think the bamboo roman shade is a great texture piece that will add depth to the room and has that timeless touch of class.

My take on botanicals... unless the prints are of good quality and the framing and matting are good quality... then my preference is to use the vintage dried and pressed botanicals... in which case frame selections can range from the simple, humble frames to good quality gilt. If you go with wood, I would keep it similar to the dresser. I think matching the crib wood tones would be too dark for this space.

Other options in lieu of botanicals are framed intaglios, or framed vintage buttons, or on and on...

As far as the current placement... the grouping is too much the same width as the crib. It needs to extend past the lines of the crib... which could be achieved by adding a sconce on each side of the grouping, or something along that idea.

I think botanical prints (6) would look good above the crib, but the botanical print you have is a bit small

Nice comfy, squishy chair possibly with a footstool and free-standing reading lamp. Chair can hold pillows from the bed when I'm sleeping :) If you have room, a free-standing mirror, maybe an armoire that guests can use while the main closet can be reserved for regular use.

Love the botanicals! I agree closer and larger to avoided use of sconces, if you wish.

I love the bed. Why don't you use that as the centerpiece of the room and accentuate it with lamps and fixtures of the same style. I imagine a beautiful chandelier or ornate ceiling fan in that room. I also like the idea of wallpaper on the wall behind the bed; possibly something a little iridescent (little shimmer) with a simple pattern. Also you can add Victorian accessories and possibly cornices on the windows.
The possibilities are endless. Great start!

The botanical prints are a good idea. It's a classic look but the placement is modern. I think it will be a great addition to the room.

If you use plates: All white round plates are like polka dots on the wall and, therefor, modern. The modern is clashing with the scrollwork and carved detail of the antique pieces. Find a mix online or at estate sales etc. for only a few dollars each. The different shapes and sizes add interest. For example, These would not add any of the color you don't seem to want in the room, yet they add texture and visual art. You can add in a few of the plain white to keep it from being too busy.

I love that bed! My two cents, and it just comes down to individual preference, I love to see a mirror reflecting windows and light. I could see a vintage beveled mirror above the bed. I found one I just love in a rectangular shape in our room. In our guest room, we have mirror behind an old window frame hanging above the iron bed that reflects the window nicely. Then, you could hang petite wall lamps, or even sconces low on each side of the bed for reading lamps. That would allow you to put petite sized tables on each side of the bed.

A small trunk, or a small upholstered bench at the foot of the bed is nice for guests to plop suitcases on. A series of vertical artwork or family pics between the windows would be fabulous too. I try to stay away from throw rugs for tripping reasons and I don't like hanging breakable wall things in case someone brushes against it and breaks. Good luck

I see a wall wooden shelf above the bed for accents such as family pictures with frames that add contract to the space. It would also be nice to see a finish such as grasscloth wallpaper on the wall just behind the bed. Another idea is to add wainscoting to the wall going up 3/4 length in white. :)

Add some more interesting colors that brighten up the room and I would get a chandelier to add that little finishing touch.

I love the room you have started with. I also like the suggestions of using botanical prints and/or plates as art. A couple of other suggestions are examples of needlework that also have texture, are framed antique lace doilies, placed on a darker or medium shade of background fabric or paper. You could also use framed embroidered handkerchiefs as another way to bring in a subtle color accent or stay with your current color scheme. For decorative pillows I would look for candlewicked pieces. I really love the idea of using different sized sepia toned family photos arranged above the cradle, especially photos of babies and children to give the impression that they once used the cradle.

I hate to be the one to point this out but your plates are crooked. The easiest way to get them balanced on the wall is to cut paper the size and shape of the items. Then tape the papers to the wall with blue painter's tape (it won't harm your new paint job) and level and even one side to the other. Move them around until everything is balanced, level, and even. Then drive the hanger nail right through the paper. Remove the paper AFTER the plates are hung.
Just trying to help you out, as hanging groups of things can be tricky.
