Any solid color rug will show more dirt and lint than a patterned one, but pics of your space would be most helpful :)

What color blue? French, cornflower, turquoise or navy? Subtle patterns hide wear and larger patterns can be art. Need more info

Sorry the pictures didn't load the first time. You can see that it is one large room, encompassing the living area and the dining area. I am trying to make it more separate looking, and thought a big rug might help. Thanks!

a patterned rug with a light background. strictly blue and cream or introducing more color. a dark background would intreupt the flow and fight the furniture. you do need a good bit of dark in the rug to help balance the large black tv screen. looks like there might be room to add a small stained wood rectangular table nest to the loveseat? if not, try a blue and white throw over the right arm of the loveseat to give the area some weight.
change the pillow on the brown chair to include blue.

the basics are good but the room could use art and a pretty piece on the coffee table.

I'm thinking of the Gabrielle blue rug from Pottery Barn. Thanks for your ideas! I think the room is too small to add an end table, but I could try it and see how it looks. I just bought this place, so I'm still collecting things to make it look more lived in.

Nice pick. The Adeline rug would also look good (even though it's darker). I suggest picking the pale sea-blue color and paint the wall opposite te fireplace. This way the blue accents are more balanced out.
Just like the cabinet on that wall gives some weight to the brick.

I'm not a fan of putting an area rug on top of carpeting. But, if you do it, make sure the rug size is correct. I think the one there is too small. I believe you are trying to break up the light carpeting from the light sofas by adding a rug, which is a great idea...DIAspoton (above commenter) is right about adding some dark throws and pillows to balance the space better...good luck...

the PB leslie rug is pretty and has more depth to balance the room. ballard designs has a few good choices as well. check out josslyn.

The floor is stamped concrete. We are considering tile at some point because the stamped concrete is very challenging to keep clean. This is a beach house on the water, so I am trying to keep it nice and light. (You can see the beach hat and bag by the door in the one picture!) I will definitely add more blue things around the space to pull it all together. Thanks!

Wow!! I just went back to have a 2nd look at the flooring...so sorry, I do see that it is stained concrete! I think DIAspoton has great recommendations! What about also lightening up the side shelving and the dinette set with some paint too? It would definitely help achieve that beach house feel...good luck....

In the near future, I will get the rug for the floor. Down the line, we are considering adding travertine floors, and maybe changing the brick fire place into a grey/limestone fire place. In any other house, I think I would love the red brick, but it seems a little heavy in this beach house. The only thing we have done to the house since we moved in is paint the walls. They used to be a bright yellow! That had to go immediately.

You may try hair-on cowhide patchwork rug. May look very elegant with this decor..
