Kitchen reveal

I posted this on the home building forum, but thought I would share here also since I spent most of my lurking time on the kitchens forum. We just finished our new construction, being our own GC's. We did all the flooring, cabinet install, and trim work ourselves, but subbed out the framing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and countertops. I was so fortunate to have a great experience as a GC. I've read so many horror stories here about issues with subs, etc, but we were very lucky. I worked with wonderful subs who tolerated my many questions and last minute ideas. Cabinets are espresso finished American Woodmark from HD, Crema Brasil granite, pulls from IKEA, and engineered distressed hickory wide plank floors.

Would you post a close up of your crown molding? I love the simplicity and scale of the molding - so understated!

    Here you go Carrie B.

fldirt--Had to laugh when you said the island was unique. The draftsman tried to talk me out of it, the original plan had the counter with the seating wrap around and connect to the pantry instead. It left a ton of wasted space in the middle of the kitchen--not enough for an island but too much to be functional. I love the way it turned out. Kind of like a galley kitchen but with additional space for people to hang out on the other side of the island. The pantry is accessible and easy to pull out what I need to the prep counter without having to carry it around to the other side. I built a false back to the island behind the sink and dishwasher to make the island a little wider and create a toekick on both sides. I love it, do not regret it one bit.

I really like that. I kind of wish my crown molding were smaller, like yours, but then either my cabinets would have had to be taller (and they're already tall) or they would not have gone to the ceiling.

very nice! love the flooring. and yes, very unique islandinsula! lots of room for people to sit up to it.

are the double doors your pantry? what faucet do you have?

Very pretty! I love the earth-tones and wood floors.

desertsteph, 'islandinsula'--I'll have to remember that term. ;)

Very nice. Calm, serene and yet still interesting. How will you use your Islinsula? That's the lazy way of spelling/saying it. ;) I imagine one area being used for preparing baking stuff while other is used for regular prep.

Well done - what a clean, serene, well-lit happy space you have created! I especially love your flooring and will look forward to some KAW / Kitchen At Work photos:)

Looks great! I'm interested to see the built in on the other side of the fridge and the end view of the island-insula!

mgmum - here you go. I'm not sure which other view you were looking for, see if this works:

Thanks chellefnp! I thought your island was U shaped but now I see it's L shaped. The built-in serving area looks great! I just wanted a better look, that's all. :)

Chellefnp, everything looks great, I'm sure you are enjoying your kitchen immensely. What is the distance between the island and the counter with the range?

Somehow I missed your reveal in Nov. Beautiful floor and I especially like your piece in your dining area. Congratulations - you & DH did a great job.

tiggsy - it's 46 inches between the countertop edges.
