In the box hidden forever it is ugly picture
  • 10 years ago

oh gosh.... mine are just snapshots taken by a couple of friends i gave instamatic cameras to (1990s). i'm not a fan of immortalizing the blessed event....and i do kinda get creeped out by prominently displayed photos of other folks' weddings.

mirador, my parents got married in 1952 and had no wedding pics, when i was a kid i just assumed cameras hadnt been invented yet.

All we have are candid shots. I have a small one in a frame on my bureau.

We keep our pictures in an album hidden away in our bedroom. After 37 years, so many precious memories have replaced that special day. The wedding was wonderful - but our life together has been filled with so much happiness and love that the joy of our life has overshadowed the wedding.

We have a 5x7 candid from a disposable camera on a bookshelf in the living room. I also have an invitation framed and on another bookshelf.

Ah yes, spenserh, the invitation! I do have a framed invitation on the piano! No photos, maybe, but an invitation on display since 1969!

We don't display them. We have a dvd of our wedding and have only looked at it once. We just don't see a reason to display them.

We don't display them at all. When we married in 1978 all anyone had was a Polaroid Instant Camera to take photos. Most of them have faded. We've never had wedding photos to display. We do enjoy looking at other people's wedding photo displays.

This inspired me to dig out our Ketubah- a beautiful hand-painted marriage contract. We kept it centrally displayed in our last home. It is a reminder of the promises we made to each other. I haven't put up any of our artwork since we just moved and painted through out the new house. It is a truly lovely tradition and you can have your own words or choose from a variety of beautiful contracts. According to my husband's Rabbi, signing the Ketubah is actually the thing that makes you married, not the verbal ceremony. We also have an ongoing joke about the things we each claim to have had the rabbi insert into the Hebrew portions.

Went to a friend of the shakers wedding once, they had a lovely parchment with their vows and then all the witnesses, every wedding guest, signed it. I might have hung that up. I have never liked pictures, I don't photograph well most of the time, and feel that whatever you think in your mind is the most accurate image of the person. Also, when my son was born, someone came and stole my mom's purse from my hospital room as she walked me down the hall to see him. I know, and it was 3 days to christmas yet! She lost her grandmother's rosary and all these irreplaceable pics of family. That was the end of pics for me. I have them, stuffed in pic boxes.

A few couples photos are in our bedroom, a couple of the family photos hang on the hall wall headed to our family room, and the rest are in an album :)

A wedding photo displayed between the living and dining room
  • 10 years ago

We don't have any. We got married in city hall during hunting season in the UP of MI and forgot to have anyone take one.

I have a 5x7 wedding pic on my nightstand in the bedroom, strategically placed in the room for good fung shei. Then in our "living" room we have a collage of three wedding photos which are candid shots by a friend and turned out every bit as good as professional. Just above the wedding collage is the wedding certificate and just below is our family crest. From that central wedding picture the display spreads horizontally with our graduation pictures, then parents, grand parents and even great grandparents. We are very proud of our heritage! There are actually a total of three walls covered in family pictures in this room. It doesn't look tacky because it is a huge room with ten foot ceilings. The second wall is the only one with professional photos of our family when our girls were about 13 & 15. Those will be updated when the youngest graduates from college. The third wall has all candid shots of sports and daily life. I also have a chronological picture display which goes up the stairs to the girls bedrooms. Visitors and family absolutely love all our photos - they show a realistic timeline of life :)

The photos from the first marriage are in my son's house. At least that's where they were left. The photos from the 2nd marriage did not move with me. Who knows?

We keep ours everywhere! We have engagements, wedding photos, and candid honeymoon shots spotted in the living room and in the bedroom. I think it's romantic, and we love to share our memories. The few we have are interlaced with other photography and mixed media, and it doesn't end up being overpowering, but are just nice reminders. I grew up with one wedding picture of my parents in our living room and loved it. We think everyone should proudly display their special moments, and add to them family pictures, photography and art.

Good grief. I h ave never displayed any wedding photos and often wonder why other people do. My neighbors have a 36"x42" photo in their living room. To me it looks dated and sad. Move on folks, there are so many great memories other than the wedding. So sayeth the grinch. :-)

Does noone here ever feel like they are missing the event while they are taking pics? When my son was small there were many, but once he got a little older and then dad left, I felt I could not have the moment and the pic? Finally he gave me a hard time, and i expressed exactly that, i could live it or photograph it. Not both. i don't know maybe my opposition to it all made it worse.

Our wedding and engagement pictures are displayed on our bedroom wall. We have the kids pictures or artwork in other parts of the house, but having these in our private space reminds me everyday of the joyous beginning of our relationship. When the day is rough or we're in our own little worlds, seeing this helps me make more of an effort to stay close and show my husband of 11 years how much I love him.

Don't even know where they are but when I'm getting the house ready to sell, they will be in the garbage. :)

I display my grandparents, parents and my children's wedding photos in a long hallway that has a built-in niche and floating shelves. When friends and family visit it's fun to talk about the memories. Personally, my wedding picture sits on a small table in the master bedroom along with our photo album.

A former work acquaintance had a huge wedding photo above her couch. Hideous and embarrassing, but a great source of amusement (not for her, but for her co-workers). No one cares about your wedding, especially 20 years after the fact. Keep a photo album for your family and give everyone else a break.

I don't display my (our) wedding pictures; I have an album in the closet. I do have a frame in the kitchen with one photo of each of our 3 kids' weddings. I find my kids beautiful in photos...me, not so much.

They stay in the beautiful leather bound photo albums stored in the hallway closet. We pull them out every year on our anniversary, pour over them and reminisce while we drink some bubbly in our "wedding champagne glasses" and then put them away until the next year. 36 happy years.

Married 6 years ago, and keep the huge album on the living room table, in case anyone wants to see them, and they do... We have a small, more informal picture from these with the many framed pics of loved ones on the piano. My parents insisted we make a big picture of ME IN MY WEDDING GOWN that they framed and put at the front of the reception. I thought it looked like "Princess for a day" - which I already do for a living, being a performer, so I definitely don't need it. I get to wear big dresses for a living. :-) That picture now sits in the closet. Especially since it seems like the whole wedding's only about the bride and not the groom! We call it a "roach-chaser" although it is a beautiful picture...

We really were not planning on getting married because in our opinion it doesn't add anything on how we feel for each other. But for our immigration we just buried those thoughts because it would simplify our whole life in another country. I didn't wear a wedding dress and my husband didn't wear a costume, we just wore a nice set of new clothes we were feeling comfortable in. We did get some wedding pictures, gift from our parents, but they are not shown anywhere in the house. Just in a nice photo album, the best way to show them in our opinion... ;)

I have already voted on this subject, yet receive e-mails everyday about where do I put my wedding pictures.

Bee, that's because every time someone makes a comment on this post, you get an email letting you know that someone else has added to the posting.

There is a notice at the bottom of the email where you can choose not to receive

emails when someone adds a post.

I'm not even sure where our little wedding photo album is. We do not display any family photos at all, just original art. We're not sure why we don't like being surrounded by faces and think it might be a cultural thing.

We have a small one on our bar in the dining room, in a nice frame that was a gift from my in-laws. And we have an album in our living room...for now. We like keeping them inconspicuous.

When we first got married they were in full display where everyone could see them. Now 15 years and three kids later...only one remains and it is in our bedroom. We like to get the photo album out on our anniversary to reminisce.

Wherever I want to. It's my house. I display what I want.

I have two small wedding albums that my photographer gave me filled with our photos. They are kept in a cabinet in the family room. I do have a small photo of my husband and I in a wall collage that is also in the family room.

There is one small casual couple picture of us as newlyweds beside the bed and one small leather-framed wedding day picture on the mantel. My husband reminded me tonight that our anniversary is coming up soon. Awww.

I'm not a big photos-everywhere or of anything or everyone person. (In fact I'd love to edit some people out of some photos we have. There are some people in some historical photos that no relatives recognize, and there is nothing on the back of the photos. It would be great to figure out how to keep our loved ones in the photo without damaging it entirely. Some photos in my posession alone are pushing 100.

There are a few random pics. of the kids/grand-kids/family in my prayer book and the office. I've been busy sorting photos to give away lately. I've also shredded a bunch of irrelevant or old and poor quality ones. (Eg.Pictures of old trips of places that are easily found in postcards, calendars or the net. I don't need fifty pictures of every park or mountain range, etc.)

I'm trying to get the boxes down to just a few. I inherited oodles of them. I'd love to make a couple of photo-books as gifts and one for us, and that's that.

Nowhere...they are in a special album somewhere in the back of an old armoire. At least 10 years ago, I took them out of the dining room fireplace shelf...we are celebrating 25 years in 2016....do not need to see them, love is still present in the house ! I feel very lucky...

A few months post nuptials is plenty for public display. Keep it more private, but definitely where you and mate can easily observe them. Don't totally bury the album, either. Should there be a divorce, you'll be glad they weren't sucking the air out of the living room for years. Also, people WILL notice how much you've changed/aged!

Ours is in our hallway EVERYONE in our house has no option but to see it always. It is a wonderful feeling to see 'us' always---Im soppy I know but its an an awesome feeling

We chose our favorite one and made it into a canvas. That one is on the mantle above the fireplace, so it kinda has the most important spot.

The photo guest book is in the office, but that's an e-pic. We also have one smaller version with our vows written over it, courtesy of click . But that's it.

I have got some cool decor advice from all of you. Thanks for your insights on how to decorate the house. I have also seen some great decor examples online. There this cool website Photojaanic that can help you compose photos in one big frame or how to match them by topics or colors, or events.
