A search for this in Fruit&Orchards was no help. Odoratus is the eastern equivalent of our local R. parviflorus thimbleberry and I would guess the taste to be similar.

Apparently was introduced and has now naturalized in WA state, the furthest western location of its native range. Seems to me I've seen those distinctive magenta rubus flowers in my rather rural location but never paid attention (or completely overlooked) to any berry production. Fruit is described as "somewhat dry and insipid".

The local R. parviflorus is one of the best wild berries for flavor when harvested in prime condition, but to use any quantity requires many hours of picking and then the fruit needs to be juiced to remove numerous seeds. Makes excellent jelly and soda pop. Flavor is like a combination of raspberry and honey.
