Refinished my kitchen table

Thanks to advice from Houzz community, I did the refinish of my kitchen table in a darker color ([https://www.houzz.com/discussions/re-finish-our-kitchen-table-dsvw-vd~3502880[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/re-finish-our-kitchen-table-dsvw-vd~3502880)). It's an~15 year old Ikea Norden table in birch that had a ton of wear and tear.

It was my first attempt at pretty much any of this, and I'm happy how it turned out. Sanded, stained, and polyurethaned with a ton of help from Youtube and my local paint store. Still have to get the floors refinished...but I'll leave that for the pros.

Thanks all! To get the color I wanted, perhaps I got lucky by mixing 2 different stains. I first applied Zar black onyx and then second coat of Zar Moorish Teak.

Noah,

Can you tell me if/how you sanded. I am considering purchasing this table to refinish, but I read that it was nearly impossible to remove the poly finish by sanding (I hate stripping.) Your thought or comment would be greatly appreciated. BTW_looks great!

@feyest, i only sanded with orbital sander. took a while, but i believe passes of 40, 80, then 120 grit. then pre-stain wood conditioner before the staining. it's held up nicely for the last few years. bought new chairs as opposed to trying to refinish.

Oh-just looked at "before". definitely same table! good to know. I used Java Gel stain by General Finishes-amazing product. Thanks again. I feel more confident already.
