I commented on your Christmas tree post and was going to suggest a different furniture layout but from the pictures, I thought you had a sectional. So I have to get this off my chest! Put your media cabinet of the opposite wall, move your sofa so it faces the window. The put your oversized chair where the wall unit use to be. Recommend paint out the oak trim white, going with a neutral color on the walls like SW Alabaster. If possible remove the oak piece going across in center or room. If not possible, paint it the wall color. Would box in the area above fireplace. Add floor to ceiling drapes. Add color through accessories.
