Some vibrant patterns on pillows and drapes to soften. Colorful accent pieces: ceramics, glass. I might lose the tan walls in favor of a blue or sage if it doesn't open a can of worms, project-wise. Keep an eye out for a good deal on a more interesting coffee table.

This room isn't too bad at all. Seems a little off balance. I'd move the rug out from the couch just a little...sort of center it more with the FP. Remove the sports blankets. Get some nice pillows. Accessories for the coffee table.

One thing, and a good place to start for adding more color, would be much larger art over the fireplace.

Do you sew? You could find some material you love and create some simple drapes. The room needs a little more feminine to the masculine! And, the art could be enlarged by framing it. There are regular sales at Aaron Brothers or Michaels.

These drapes may be too formal for you, but I like the color they bring to this room.

If you just get a few new pillows it will help, but you really need a new longer console for TV wall, remove chair and fill that wall with TV. Look to overstock.com, Craigslist. They are out there for not too much cash. It needs to be 25% longer than TV size. Longer if you have space on the wall.

Sports blankets should be folded up and put away. Otherwise you can do everything these kind advisors are saying and it will still look like a man cave.

Can you pull the sectional forward so it, and the rug, are centered on the fireplace? would that put the lounge part in front of the fireplace and if so, could you remove that section entirely? The piece is too big and casual for the room but if it needs to stay, just wondering if you could make it smaller by removing pieces? The rug looks off to me lined up with the fireplace, I think it should relate to the room, not just the sectional.

Would you consider removing the chair by the window altogether and then centering the tv on that wall?

I would look for a new furniture piece to hold the tv. I shop at a couple of consignment stores where you can get great deals. If you get a much longer one, on legs for the air vent, then you can sit the tv to one side and add a few vases to the other to balance it.

Perhaps you can find another room for the chair. It is too far away from the sofa to be included in seating arrangement and serves no purpose for watching TV. Then you can get a nice console for TV and the room will look so much better.

I always start with a focal point for the room. It could go on the wall above the green plant. This will have the benefit of drawing the eye to the far end of the room, making it appear larger, as well. It could be a painting, a large round clock, preferably something with color so that you can start weaving colors back and forth across the room in other accessories (pillows, books, throws, etc). You already have a lot of masculine energy in this room. It needs feminine balance. Seeing more of the room, I say absolutely paint it. A COLOR. You need contrast with the other rooms. I recently did my main room, stairs, and hall tan and even though my house has lots of color I can't shake the man-cave feeling. If my backsplash doesn't change everything, the tan goes. I would do a pale blue, the several shades darker on the ceiling, or you could really have fun in here with aqua and lime or salmon, but...baby steps.

No one has mentioned the lighting which strikes me as too narrow and tall. And brown. I would look for something wider than tall, a drum shade would be cool, with coffee table centered beneath if possible. http://houzz.com/photos/6254854

Hello, I think your furniture is too large for the room. If it is in the budget for the future I would consider using a smaller sectional or sofa and a chair. Also, there is not much contrast in the room. The colors just run together; but not a major issue.

I would mount your flat screen above the fireplace. This will give more space in the room. With the size TV you currently have and depending what's behind the dry wall you could also place the TV in the drywall and add opening shelves for the cable box and etc.
