Fridge too far across kitchen?

We are in the midst of building a basement suite and have taken the opportunity to relocate some piping in the wall between our kitchen and dining room in the hopes that one day we will be able to remove that wall. The box behind the stove is a chimney and currently there is a wall that continues wall D to wall A (with a doorway near stove). We also currently have a built-in nook basically where the fridge is located in the drawing.

Would having the fridge out of the main kitchen area be a huge pain? Currently, the fridge is between the sink and the backdoor, and the dishwasher is to the right of the sink around the corner.

My main issue with our current layout is that there are always dirty dishes in the main prep area so the prep area gets reduced to the tiny 6" counter next to the stove.

We are a family of 4 so most of the time would have a table sized similar to in the drawing, but this layout would allow it to be extended for large gatherings (Christmas, etc), which is always a challenge for us.
