Finally - made my bulb order!

So, I had planned on ordering from VanEngelen as last year I made my order around Christmas and there was quite a lot of selection at 40% off. This year, VanEngelen is at 35% off and, wow! so much is wiped out!

Based on a thread here, I was determined to have some"golden bells" narcissus to plant in my lawn. I was determined and everyone was out (panic!) except on the third page of my Google search, I found Brent and Becky's.

They are having an awesome sale -50% off with a relatively larger selection and the customer service is great. I believe the last day to order might be the 7th.

This is what else I am getting. I'm planning on picking up some crocus at Home Depot today as they were a bit pricey.

Most of the Narcissus are in numbers of 5. I learned my lesson from last year where I had to find a place for 100 of the same type of daffodil.

The weather here has been so mild, I am not concerned about the late planting. I have Iris, roses, dianthus and one Shasta daisy blooming - it's crazy!

Nice selection! Brent and becky's sale is a great way to play around a little with ordering things. For just 2 or 3 dollars you can add something and it's not such a struggle to decide if the budget can take it. But like you said, finding a spot can sometimes be the real problem.

I've never really done much with dutch iris. I was thinking about adding some but then got distracted with other things. Now I get to see how yours do!!

I am visual! Thank you for the pictures. Really like Narcissus odorus flore pleno.

I had a pkg. of 25 Narcissus 'Pink Charm'. Never thought I'd finish finding good places and not sure that I did! Spring will tell. 100 - aughh! Thanks for heads up on Brent and Becky's.

I'm glad you liked the visuals! From the website, flore pleno doesn't reliably double all the way. So, might be interesting to see what I get.

Yes, after about 30, I ran out of room in the area I had planned. Forgot how big those bulbs really are.. I now have that daffodil all over my property in about 5 different locations. Good thing it is so lovely. :)

Hi Katob,

I am excited about the Dutch Iris and I have just the spot for them. The real test will be 2017 to see if they come back. I have heard mixed reviews on repeat performance.

The order was very reasonable. I'm excited to be planting in December. :)

I find the bulbous dutch iris to be reliable as long as it gets good drainage - not at all keen on sitting in wet soil so pop a bit of gravel under the bulbs. True, the weather has been weirdly mild and the soil might have enough residual heat for the narcissus to really get some root growth, but planting narcissi this late, there is a possibility some may come up blind in spring...but will be absolutely fine the following year as long as the foliage has enough time to die down naturally.

Thanks Campanula. Hmmmm, I am thinking of putting the Dutch Iris near my sidewalk where the sun warms / dries the soil faster. Might need to scrounge some grit as well.
