What zone are you in? The general guidance is to get it in as soon as possible as it is worse to keep it unplanted

If you are totally snowed in or the ground is frozen so hard down near the planting depth, you can plant into pots and keep in a cool ,but sheltered place like a garage or shed. You can even plant in pots and then put in your(extra) fridge. Search the forum for both methods if you decide to pot instead of plant in the ground.

I dug mine in last year mid January. I had to dig through a thin frost layer to get to the planting depth. We had a very mild beginning of winter and that was after the first real freeze. They bloomed just fine.

Thanks for the info. Your best bet is to plant now in your pots at the recommended depth, give it a bit of a water and then put somewhere protected like a shed or garage. The daffodils will grow roots during the cold months.

Typically planted underground, they are protected from the coldest temperatures by the soil layer above. However, in a pot, all sides can freeze quickly as it is exposed to the air. You want the bulbs to get cold, but not freeze the pot totally.

I would suggest searching this forum for 'overwintering" or "forcing bulbs" or "garage". There are some great detailed threads. As I do not own a shed or garage, I can't guide you on the finer points of this method. :)
