Maximize space and floorplan for 500 sq. foot lake cottage

We just bought a small 500 sq. ft. cottage on a lake in Wisconsin, It has the old 70's rustic look to it. We want to open it up, updated it in a beachy blue/white/yellow or mint combo. Want an open exposed beam ceiling. It's basically a big square
