I have had cherimoya seeds wrapped in a damp paper towel in a bag for approx. 2 months now and so far nothing is happening. I just scored a few of them last week to see if that makes a difference.

I was able to get cherimoya seeds to germinated in 3-4 weeks with direct sowing. Sugar apple seeds on the other hand, still nothing after 3+ months.

Keep-on - Did you score the seeds in any way?

The cherimoya has a very long tap root, so I like to plant the seeds in a very deep pot. I would rather not mess with the tap root once it has started growing, so that's why I use a deep pot. Cherimoya seeds don't all sprout right away, some take months to sprout. I like to soak even fresh seeds overnight in water before planting. I don't have any experience with the sugar apple, but since it's also an annona I would assume what I described above would work well for these seeds too.

I didn't score the seeds, just soaked them overnight and that was it.

I've grown sugar apple, and soursop from seed. I just put the seeds in a pot and left them alone, I guess time to sprout was ~4-6 weeks

Update on seed germination. I soaked one cherimoya seed for 3 days and placed in in a separate damp paper towel to see if it germinates before those soaked 24 hours. After 9 days - no germination.

Hello - I had some luck with germinating the Sugar Apple seeds.

I had some dried seeds (someone gave me). First I tried the damp towel method but nothing after 5 weeks. Next I scored the remaining seeds (dry ones - not the damp towel ones) enough so that the protective coat was gone and I could see inside seed (it was white inside).

I planted them in peat moss pellets in a starter greenhouse kit I got from home depot. I left it in the garage, sealed the sides with scotch tape and waited... About 2 weeks later I saw some seeds germinate. At one point I had over 20 seedlings, however all but 4 died due to fungus before the seedling fully emerged. I blame myself.. I should have removed the top lid by now (it happened in a matter of 2 days while I was away).

I transferred the remaining 4 to a small 3 inch pot (used potting soil). I left it indoors the whole time near a window that got indirect sunlight as California summer was too hot (100+ on multiple days). Well one more seedling died in a few days.

I decided to move the remaining 3 pots outdoor. 1 to side of house (gets 3-4 hours sunlight a day), 1 in full sunlight, and one in shade of another tree (the tree gets full sun).

Well now (about 4 months later) only the one on the side of the house is alive. It is about 5-6 inch high. I am not sure if it is healthy though -- it seems to only have 2 leaves at a time. When a new set of leaves emerges, the old two fall off... I am not sure what to do now... Winter is getting too cold, so I am thinking about moving indoors and using grow lights...

I checked the seeds today. The sugar apple seed paper towels were were covered in a black fungus. I threw the paper towel and plastic bag away, washed the seeds and used a clean damp paper towel and plastic bag to continue the germination attempt. Still no germination.

Yike, I had similar experience with the paper towel method the couple times that I tried. Maybe try a couple seeds in soil assuming those seeds are still viable? Good luck!

I checked the seeds again today. It has been 25 days. I have two sugar apples and one cherimoya that have generated so far. Three of the seeds had a bit of fungus on them and I washed it off and put them in clean damp paper towels. I planted the germinating seeds into 3, 6-inch pots on January 1, 2016 about 1 inch deep. I placed the pots in an indoor room near a window where they only will get dappled light. I am interested in seeing how long it will take before the plants break the surface.
