I'm in central new york. The plant is separated from my others since it's new. It's in an east facing window and the temp is around 68-72. It's not ideal but I've put other plants with flowers in the exact same spot and they have been okay. I have a humidity chamber that it would probably be happier in but I am worried about it introducing bugs. I had a bad experience with spider mites and am very wary of putting new plants near the others now.

If the cut roots were dried and dead it wouldn't affect the plants. Any roots which were greenish/silver would be alive and could affect the plant. Did you spray anything on the plant? Expose it to cold temps?

My instinct is that something happened when you brought the plant home. Maybe the roots were not dead but dehydrated. If you post a few photos, it might help.

Thanks Jane! The plant was shipped to me so certainly could have been exposed to cold while in transit. It had a hot pack but the shipping was delayed by a day so I don't think it lasted the entire time. The plant looked okay when I got it so I thought it would be fine but the flowers started looking unhappy after a day or two.

The change in environment can cause bud blast, even if where it is right now is good for the plant, it still might be "different enough" that it caused these buds to die off. It will probably acclimate after a few weeks, and hopefully will bloom again for you within the year!

Meisha, my guess it was the shipping. I've had it happen especially if it took days in transit. Hopefully the plant is healthy and will bloom again next year.

Thanks! I guess I'll just have to hold tight and hope it blooms again soon. I"m very glad to know it's probably not my fault. I'd have felt horrible otherwise!
