Sounds like the same mindset as with florist pot crops ('mums, poinsettias etc. etc.) that consumers are encouraged to toss instead of trying to keep growing. On the one hand it greatly increases sales if people keep buying new ones over and over but on the other many of the products are not plants most are going to be able to get to re-bloom (or grow at all) in their houses anyway.

My experience with hippeastrums in the house is that it is not bright enough - with the leaves stretching and collapsing in an effort to get more light - and you really have to keep up with the fertilizer. But on the other hand one time I saw an entire grouping of a big red kind in bloom in what looked to be quite a dim exposure. They had started with a single bulb and now had this whole planter of them, with multiple bulbs and stalks. They had been using fertilizer, apparently consistently.

So if I went to wax museum and saw a wax amaryllis, should I be concerned?
