Hi,
I put together this formal dining room with restyled furniture. but I feel the room looks weird or something is missing. What do you think?

Did you intentionally do a Swedish style? I love that look, but I do think a taller cabinet would look really good. I like the sparse look you have there, but I think it needs some height.

I think a nice ficus tree or other large plant in the corner by the window would look good.

I didn't know about the Swedish style :)

I like the look. I agree that you need some height to finish it off. Everything is horizontal.

I think it's really pretty. The chandelier looks as if it could be lowered and would look better- a larger one might work, too. I think I'd want the art piece to be a little larger and hung a little lower, too. What is to the left of the doorway that's peeking out on the left in the first pic?

Personally, I would add some kind of cushion to the white chairs to make them more comfortable to sit on. You could use white to keep the sparse look. I would also replace the print on the wall above the buffet with a mirror. Looks like the reflection is nice. If you wanted to keep the look, I would consider lowering the print a few inches. But that might be camera angle that makes it look higher than it really is

Can it be turned in the other direction, it may have more balance that way.

You need a bigger chandelier and much lower, about 30-36 inches from the top of your table and bigger art. I think black finish on the chandelier and also black frames on art would tie in nicely.

Agree, a bigger chandelier hung lower.

Only my personal opinion but, I really don't like those chairs, and painted white isn't doing them any favors.

I like the color of your walls and the idea of white chairs. I like all of Nosoccermom's inspiration photos.

I agree to a more substantial chandelier.

    Should I change the chairs?

    Yes.

Have the artwork reframed with a large mat to increase the size, a dark frame and hang it lower.

I love the chairs! They have so much character; your room looks fresh and has personality.

I think the chairs provide a very decorative element to the room so that you don't need much else. To me a larger chandelier hung lower, and as someone mentioned to reframe the picture above the cabinet to increase the size. That would be simple but effective.

I would definitely lower the chandy. Leave the chairs...they are so interesting.

Add some candles to the sconces.

I think the other issue is one of scale...the artwork is hung high to see it, but then, with the lower buffet, they don't relate to one another, where typically they would.

Perhaps try replacing the art with something that goes the other way...taller than wide and set it lower on the wall so it can relate to the buffet. Maybe put something taller on the buffet too. If you look at the pics above posted by nosoccermom, you'll see it's often that the stuff on the buffet will overlap the art above making the entire thing more unified.

Also, for me, the bare minimalist is not my style, but I get it. Still I would like to see some cushions on the chairs and perhaps a bench or ottoman on either side of the buffet with a fabric cushion, just to add more warmth...and they could be pulled up to the table too if you have a larger crowd.

Thank you all for your amazing ideas. I will try to find other artwork for the wall, and I will hang the one I have now on the other wall. I like the idea of adding cushions to the chairs. I was thinking a linen color or a dark red (like the sconces). What do you think?
