its not a great location for a tv because of the light from the windows, i'd think hard on where else in the house a tv could go. we have ours in a spare bedroom made over to be a den.

I have a small family room downstairs, perhaps we just have a tv downstairs and not upstairs at all. Hmmm.

I'd put the TV across the corner where the couch is sitting at the moment in the picture. Then you don't get the glare from the windows and you don't block them out either. An L shaped sofa in the big space facing the corner and a server across the big wall with mirrors or photos above. Good luck!

This is a common problem since builders dont seem to ever design rooms suitable for TVs. This is actaully the fist thing I check when looking at a property. If I cant fins a spot for the TV I leave.

The big wall is your only option but in the daytime you will have issues with reflection.

On the plus side, with modern providers like Dish and Direct, you can get wireless connections so you can put the TV just about anywhere and put the other hardware elsewhere.

Another plus you have is that if its on the big wall, you can easily set up surround speakers since the rear speakers could easily go up on the wall with the window.

You have plenty of room to float furniture and have it still look great. The room really isnt as problematic as you think and is much better than what many people have to deal with.

At least they didnt take up your good wall with a fireplace!

You could always get blackout curtains that would help with the sun glare.

You can place your sofa facing the TV.

Options a+b: a)put it on a swing arm in the corner as mandy suggests and float your sectional tucked under / to the right with its back to the stair and a narrow sofa table with some lighting . . B) the wall to the left with the patches is the other alternative, but then you have to shift the sectional centered / again tucked under stair but now facing across orientation of the room and you'ld need a pair of big chairs and ottomans at the far end of the room. If you do it as an entry adjacent thing, then maybe with a banquette running under it? and hang the rest of that wall with a collage? Depending on whether the sun comes in most intensely into the room at tv watching times of days (consider weekend football) then you'll have your answer. It is a great room. Put a storage piece under the television but hang it on the wall with a swing arm so that you can rotate it to serve the whole room where ever it hangs. Not across from the largest window is the only rule - it can be as large as the width of these adjacent walls less 1' or so and work nicely even at large scale.

It's a shame you can't put a fireplace in the middle of that big wall and the stick a TV over where your couch is now located. It almost seems like you need more than one focal point in this room in order to make it a multi-use space.

HI - You have a beautiful big room. You can put the TV in several places and that depends on where you have your furniture . I assume the sofa is not going to stay shoved into the corner . I think the sofa needs to float across from where the TV is decided on. Not to worry about window glare because that is solved by the type of TV you have and having drapes etc. So this is based on mounting the TV with an articulating ( swivel ) wall bracket . Place # 1 - to the right of the window (where your sofa is now ).... in this spot the TV could hide behind the drape when needed if you had the drape to the end . Place # 2 -- on the wall below the stair rail and above the vent . With the bracket then the TV can be turned for viewing . These spots kind of hide the TV so it isn't the main focus in the room. Also the sofa can then be out in front of the windows . This will also mean you can do a long console on the big wall and big art and maybe an electric or bio-fuel or gas fireplace etc.

What about to the left of those windows? It looks like there is a wall there and some wiring or something. Then your sofa can go on the long wall and those windows are free!

Although if you can go without a tv, it might be quite nice. I hate the noise of the tv all the time!
