what are your options there's only a hand full of pre painted options per region

We live in St. Louis, MO. We really like Exterior Portfolio/Crane's Market Square Slate color and feel like it's very comparable, but it's only offered in a double 4" and a double 4.5" dutchlap. We're looking for at least a double 5" (preferably 6") in a traditional. We also want to compliment it with at least a 10" board and 2" batten (same color), but would settle for shake if we had to.

A lot of people are switching to LP smart side. I don't know much about it however.

When building our new house we researched fiber cement siding products and although Hardie was more expensive it got the best reviews and held up better long term. We bit the bullet and were very pleased with the results. We found that contractors were more experienced with installing the Hardie products so we feel like we saved on time/labor.

I am in favor of James Hardie products over LP products all day.
The biggest hiccup I have is they say LP is dimensionally stable, yet you have to gap pieces for the product to expand.
Hardie you install tight and it stays tight.

As far as price point, Hardie is actually, or should be, cheaper than LP smartside.
James Hardie also has a lot stronger of a warranty when installed properly, and Color Plus is used.
