Have you thought about pulling some light gray colors from the brick fireplace to consider painting on the wall? There are so many shades of gray that can add cool or warm effects to your space, depending on what light you get and what you prefer. Contrast from the fireplace will be nice in this space.

I like that idea of pulling gray from the fireplace to the wall.

Are you open to replacing the mantle?

How about removing the fancy trim on top of the windows? It looks like the latter may have been added to the existing simpler window trim.

I like the ideas about pulling the grey tomes out of the brick, I would also suggest pulling some of the blue from the art as a contrast for accessories.

What really jumps out at me as an "off" note is the window trim. It looks out of synch with the rest of the room, both in style and colour. Consider alternate style & colour trim, replacing the white blinds and the white mat around your art .

Love the brick, the mantle and the orange chairs. Chose a paler wall color to let the furnishings do the talking here - orange accents need a paler or even white toned wall color. Not a fan of the dated looking metal thing but that's just me! Hang a single panel curtain in subdued color off to one side to get away from this builder basic look on the windows.

Since you are headed in a contemporary direction, I'd consider painting the brick fireplace the color of your woodwork. All white would be nice.

Agree with apple_pie_order, remove the trim over windows. It is traditional and mantle is more rustic. Pull the blue from the art into your accessories

Or better yet. Go with BM lambskin. Better match with the brick I think.

All open areas of our main floor ( kitchen, family room, foyer and stairwells) are painted Lambskin. I really like it as a neutral color that works well with earth tones and even jewel tones alike.

I really like your room and the color. I agree that the piece above the windows should be removed. I would remove the swirly thing on the wall, too.

The most glaring thing in the room is the window blinds. They greatly detract from a warm look. Either remove them or cover them. Fabric window treatments will add so much to the room.

Based on the recommendations, I removed the metal tree on the wall and I'm considering these paint colors. Any feedback on which color would be best?

They are both beautiful. The first is a cooler grey. The second a warmer greige. Both will make the orange more prominent in your brick. Are you still planning to keep burnt orange as an accent colour?
Before deciding on a final colour, select two or three paints to test. Buy sample size pots and paint boards that you can move around your room. The paint will look different in your space than it does in these photos.

@ wickedwhite the orange accent will stay for now. I didn't want to change everything at once. I'm leaning toward the 2nd paint color. Thanks for the suggestion on trying the paint out before a full repaint. I already have a rebuild of my master bedroom closet, so I’ll have to wait on other changes in this room besides the paint color.

I like the orange as an accent here. You might as well play to the brick! New paint will also bring out the charcoal in the brick. It will be beautiful! Keep us posted. :-)

I would paint the walls a light taupe and paint the mantle a sort of antique white. Get rid of the wall hangings and do a funky mirror.

Orange is a powerful accent though. I would stick with something muted like a burnt orange. Keep it earthy. And use it sparingly. It will have more impact that way. :-)

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I've narrowed down my paint color to Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter or maybe the Balboa Mist. Below are more pics of the space; still deciding on the best arrangements for the art ... picture on the mantel is covering up a TV stand, cable plug & AC outlet (from the previous owner).

Regarding window treatments- I've been very happy with "Top-Down Bottom-Up" Shades. You can pull the shade down from the top to let light in, or raise them from the bottom up. Selecting a light filtering material will allow light flow through your space while maintaining privacy when needed. It is a refreshing and functional choice with multiple textures/ tones. Good luck! Thanks for sharing the added pictures! Your blinds are fine. If you're going to paint the walls, I would consider framing the windows properly and possibly adding linen panels, which would soften the room a little. I assume the sofas are staying for now? Are you open to updating the rug?
As for the art, are you planning to move the mantel art to make room for a tv?
Balboa mist is very pretty. (It was a strong contender for my living room.) revere pewter also nice.. A little deeper. What is the light like in your room? Which direction does it face?

I can see what you mean with everything blending in together in this room. The furniture, fireplace, and walls all blend and noting catches the eye. A grey hue would go very well for the wall! It would tie in with the few dark pieces of stone in the fire place, while also creating some contrast and bringing out your current furniture you have.

If you have more of a monochromatic room try to add a pop of color which will allow you to play around with accents.
