need help with the dining room ideas

we are building a house and need ideas on how to decorate the dining room. Both my wife and I are really bad with decor and design. the first picture is the type of floor we are going to have in the dining room and around the house, we didnt want carpet but opted for upgraded vinyl instead (alabaster oak). The second picture is the dining room of the model home and this is what we are going to have without carpet, decor, paint, etc. We desperately need painting, decor ideas :) we like more modern style. thanks everyone for input!

The vent needs to be painted same as wall. I like the upper floor.

If this home is just being built, I would not be in a hurry to paint and furnish it.
Paint is the last thing to choose, once you have furniture, rugs and window coverings.
No hurry, to have it painted and all furnished the minute your build is complete.
Highly recommend hiring a designer to help guide you through this process. She will save you oodles of money, by guiding you with your choices of finishes, scale, fabrics, style etc. A Designer has accounts through the trade and will be able to source materials at a discount. No need to do everything at once, but a plan is certainly in order here and a designer will be well worth the money! Save you headaches and design disasters.
