kitchen sink

Hi everyone. We are in the middle of in a day kitchen remodel....ugh! It's been a long process but I see the light at the end of the tunnel! Cabinets are on their way! My question is my sink base is 24 inches. What is the size sink I should get? I'm am having the counter top professionally installed (laminate by Lowe's). This is the sink I'm in love with but I think it might be to big http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=463780-54495-QK019&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=50277223&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1
Thanks in advance!!

A 24" sink base is for a secondary sink, aka prep sink. It will fit a 21" sink. The smallest sink that is truly usable as a primary sink is a 25" sink, which needs a 27" sink base.

There goes my kitchen. The smallest I can fit is a 24 inch base.

Post your measured layout. Often small kitchens can use smaller appliances to help stretch the space.

The one wall is 73 inches. The dishwasher is 25 sink cabinet is 24 and other cabinet is 24. We ordered the cabinets through a local cabinet place (NE factory direct). They included toe kick, shoe molding and scribe molding in the layout. The original plan I had a cabinet that we were going to have to cut everything to make a sink fit. My father came over and said that I should get a 24 in sink base and I'll be fine. That cabinet was just ordered today.

The sink you selected needs a 36" cabinet. You will want a 21" sink for your cabinet.

That sink was wishful thinking. Maybe when I win the lotto and buy my million dollar house. Until then I'm stuck in my pos house.

Cancel the order. It's not too late. Get a professional designer involved, not some order clerk.

Actually it is too late. Back in Sep we went to NE Factory Direct to order them. we had a "designer" make up a blue print of the kitchen, had someone come out and measure the kitchen and the designer tweaked the design. I (my husband is clueless about home improvement stuff and the kitchen is my space) was set on getting an "L", (one side is roughly 12 sqft and the other is 10 spft). 3 of my neighbors houses have the design I wanted and we all live in the same Sears 1950's house so I know it could be done. He fought me on it for about 30 min. Finally he decided to put an 18 inch normal base cabinet in the design and told me that there would be a lot of cutting the cabinet on my end to make a sink fit. I said fine with that. Now that the cabinets are paid for and delivered my father comes over to help install them...and do I get a lot of cuss words and "why didn't you ask me fore help". We set everything up and some to find out I could have fit a 22 inch sink base in the space. So that was ordered yesterday. Now it is this dilemma with the sink.

We are looking to move out of state in roughly 5-7 years. my biggest concern was the lack of counter and cabinet space to a future buyer- that's why I was wanting the "L" shape. Before the remodel I had 7 cabinets and my counter space was 12sq ft- minus what the sink took up. After the remodel I will have 12 cabinets and 22 sq ft of counter space- minus what the sink takes up.

A 21" sink is Bad Design, from both functionality and aesthetics. A bad kitchen redo will severely limit the resale appeal, which sounds like is pretty important to you. The time to fix this problem is before things start getting installed. Again, post your plans, and it may be possible to tweak them with only buying one or two other cabinets.

I have 2 of these sinks back to back in my island in 24” cabinets with the drain rack part sitting on the cabinet beside the sink as it is instaeld that way . You might want to check it out. Ikea Boholmen

Bear in mind that frameless cabinets, and IKEA in particular, are constructed differently than standard framed American cabinets. What will work with them will not always work with the other.

Also, an undermount sink will need different clearances in a sink base cabinet than a top mount sink. The 3" smaller sink than the cabinet allows for the needed sink clips to be installed. Scooping the cabinet sides to shoehorn in a sink permanently marries you to that sink choice.

Thank you all for the suggestions! It looks like I have a lot of research to do. The good thing is I'm not crunched for time.

live_wire does bring up a good point with the frameless vs framed cabinets. The Ikea farmhouse sink may not work with the dimensions you have. But Patricia's Ikea Boholmen may since it is completely top-mounted.
