Can you start by telling us what you like and dislike here? For example, brass finishes are making a comeback, but they're not to everyone's taste...

We like mid century modern in a very un mid century modern home. :) big on neutrals for walls and fixtures and then I add color in art, accessories etc. I'm a big fan of linen white paint by Benjamin Moore but I'm not sure if that would be too blah throughout. I like modern but clean simple. I really am struggling with the cabinets and what to do with them as they are hideous....

The cabinets in your bath aren't hideous-they just need an update. You can paint them and change out the hardware and it would make a world of difference. I'd be careful with white paint. Since your fixtures are white, the wrong shade could look dirty or off color. New faucets can be a fairly inexpensive update. I believe there are videos on youtube that show how to paint your brass shower doors if you're not in a position to buy new. Painting out your trim and the bathroom door will help freshen the space as well. You could completely update your bathroom for less than $1,000.

Definitely want the cabinets darker! But hubby doesn't want to paint the trim or door, so just the cabinets for now. The question is then, what color to stain them if I have to keep the trim/door intact?

My bad. Looks like maybe your tub is almond instead of white. So stain all woodwork deep espresso, and desaturate the color on the walls. Add some floating shelves to get some of the clutter off the counter.

Yes tub and shower are almond instead of white. I wasn't sure if I should do an espresso stain or perhaps something more cocoa colored....

There are tutorials online for glazing the oak cabinets to make them darker. And they can be further updated with new knobs. I love a neutral bathroom! I would suggest painting the narrow baseboards to help camouflage the vent, and also paint the trim around the window. You could still leave the door natural. One larger rug instead of the two smaller ones and a simple Roman shade on the window would warm things up.
