I would say that, no, tiles in separate spaces do not necessarily have to match. That being said, it does help if there is an overall color palette for the house that is complimentary. What we look at when selecting finishes is how different finishes look when they come together. For example, if there is a wood floor in the living room, how does a particular kitchen tile look next to it? And, when that same wood floor meets up to the foyer, how does that tile look next to it? The idea being that you most likely don't see all the different flooring options from one vantage point, but, rather, do see changes in materials as they come together.
