I like the photo you posted of the mirror and hooks combo.

If your space doesn't allow for much more than that, it is a good option.

Browse the local home improvement store. You'll see decorative hooks on shelves and wood bars. You'll find something to catch your eye and then add any mirror above that.

Another idea is a coat tree and a pretty sofa table or thin cabinet.

Are the double doors the entry? I'm going to discourage you from getting pegs. You will have a very cluttered look when you first walk in. Put your jackets in the closet and a very thin console table, no more than 8" deep, with a bowl or box to place your keys and wallet.

Add a large painting over the console to make a wow statement when you enter.

What about putting a narrow console table on the far wall opposite the door (shown in your first picture)?

Are those your entry doors or closet doors?

could work well and the corner shelves need not be floor to ceiling. You could have room under the lowest shelf for a clothes hook and you could have a shelf to ketch a purse and/or a key hook on the bottom of a higher shelf or just put your keys and a cell phone in boxes on the shelf.

You don't want stuff hanging on the walls in a narrow corridor that you'll bump into even when you're not carrying loads of shopping bags and packages.

If you can make do without the closet, remove the closet doors and put a small chest for storage and a mirror in that space. I did it in our home and it made a huge difference creating a welcoming entry way. I will try to send you a photo of what it looks like.

Think about removing the doors from the closet and making a built in wall unit. It could be beautiful with shelves, drawers, two or three beautiful hooks, maybe on one end. You don't have room for anything much in that entryway.

it is a narrow corridor with a functional closet which you can make more functional as per suezbell's suggestion above about the media cache. shelves, narrow consoles would make the space more crowded. My suggestion would be to paint the wall opposite the closet with a splash of color - a bright chartreuse or yellow for example. I would then place a piece of elongated art on the wall opposite the front door. I believe this would draw the eye away and along the wall.

A reclaimed fireplace mantel would add a lot of interest. You could saw off the wall side making it as shallow as you like. Add a mirror, photo collage, or large canvas above. (I wouldn't go with the entire surround but just the mantel.) Also, they are easy to build if you have a tight budget. I like the idea of removing the closet doors. Congratulations on your new place.

you would have to get a really thin cabinet or table for this spot because the entry is not much wider than the door. we had a cabinet built for a tight spot because i couldn't find anything i liked that was only nine inches deep. over it put a low profile mirror or pic. does anyone agree that those double doors need something? what about pictures or slim mirrors?

Paint the interior of your main entrance door a light accent colour. That door is way too dark for that small space. Great spot for that "hit of yellow."

How about a corner shelving unit, floor to ceiling? And I would think about replacing the closet doors with mirror doors so the hallway doesn't feel so narrow.

A super large mirror would be amazing in this space...like knee to over the head size. A gorgeous frame would complement. It would surely cost a pretty penny but be one of those lifetime furnishing investments that you will never regret having made. Spots on the ceiling would be great but if it's a rental maybe you cannot start installing lighting within the walls or ceiling.

There are so many hard angles that the area begs for some softening. Of course, a tall plant would be nice but there isn't enough light there. How about ostrich feathers in a shiny umbrella type stand/vase?

The mirror with the hooks underneath is practical, a bit dark therefore visually enroaching...but keeping thinking of something that has rounded edges...wallpaper on the main wall with roundish shapes could add real pizazz!

A painting with dramatic sweeps could add that wow factor and soften the hard angles. Match the cupboard doors to the painting. I see a rich turquoise. The space on your left hand side (opposite of the closet doors) is a great place to show a large piece of art, or hang a large mirror instead to open up the space. Find a very narrow console table like leelee suggested to place your keys and maybe a vase of flowers.

You're going to be banging into anything you place across from the closet doors. You have a spot for jackets already (the closet) so you really just need a spot for keys/mail/wallets. I agree with ptmatthews although IMO it should be a corner table, not a floor to ceiling shelving unit. I purchased a corner table from Bombay before they went out of business. It has a shelf below and a small drawer, as well.

Hi there! Congrats! I agree with NPSM that you're going to be banging into even the slimmest of console tables in that narrow hallway. I would suggest, instead, a few options:

1) Some hooks on the closet doors, if necessary, that complement the existing door hardware.

2) A corner cabinet or console table at the far end wall of the hallway, where you turn the corner, giving the eye a focal point as one enters.

3) If it's your condo, and you know that there's space somewhere in the walls between the studs, and you're up for a little construction, then maybe inset/recessed shelves - something like one of these, with or without a frame:

One reason to consider corner shelving hanging on the wall rather than a table sitting on the floor is the potential for catching your toe on the leg of a table.

I think a corner piece would look brilliant and tie the two hallways together to create a welcoming flow into the house
