Would this be an example of a classic style sofa?

So, how do I get pictures to upload? I've selected the photo icon, selected the picture, hit open . . . and nothing.

Pottery Barn Square Upholstered Sofa. What do we think of Pottery Barn? Is it good quality or not?

Hi Debdo, is this the one?

Yes, that's it! Thanks for posting, I really appreciate it.

You're welcome Debdo! And yes, btw....this is what I'd consider a classic style. It would go well in both traditional and transitional spaces. Would you say either of those design styles is what you like or gravitate to?

Yes, I actually really like this sofa. I'll be shopping for a new one soon. I'd hoped to upload some pictures of my current family room and get tons of advice on what to do with it as soon as I put Christmas away this weekend. I'll need to figure out how to upload pictures soon.

Oh how cool! Sofa shopping is fun, but can be pretty overwhelming because there are lots of choices out there. Regardless, because the sofa is one of the bigger investments in a space....take your time and try out any sofa you're considering. Take some extra few more minutes when trying it out, too and really, sit/lounge on it like you would at home.

Btw, as for your question re: quality....I personally have never owned a PB sofa. Other items from PB, yes. But sofa....no. We did do a lot of sofa shopping over the last year though....and PB was one we researched quite a bit. Reviews and other feedback seem to be about 50/50 with PB. But I think I'd heard both good and bad about most of the well-known furniture retailers. There were some that I've heard more good than bad....and some the other way around.

Do you have a budget range in mind for a sofa? Is what's showing online for the PB square about the size sofa you're looking for? Also, in what general area do you live? Only reason I ask is just want to make sure that if there are any other sofas that come to mind, that those brands/retailers are local to you (so you're able to check them out in person).

My budget for a new sofa might be unrealistically low--we've had our current sofa for 20 years, so it's been a while! I'd guess around $5,000, but truly IDK. I live in Cincinnati. Furniture stores near me would include Haverty's, Ashley, Macy's, Lazy Boy, Arhaus, Verbarg's . . .

I'm with you about the feedback on quality of furniture sold in all of these stores; 50/50 at best.

I need to get my husband on board with the new furniture plan and then go shopping!

Debdo, you can get a really nice quality sofa for $5k (and less) IMO. The PB sofa shows that it's about 79" in length. Is that about the size you need? Could something in the 84"-90" range work? (Definitely would want to double check measurements before committing to any sofa).

Are you open to considering other brands/styles? There are definitely other options for you that I think could offer really good quality for that price point.

Btw, looked up Verbags since I hadn't heard of that store before.....looks like that they offer some really good quality brands like CR Laine, Sherrill, Stickley. There looks like there's a store by you too by the name of Leopolds Furniture that offers Vanguard, Sherrill and other good brands. So definitely check those places out if you can.

We personally own several pieces from Mitchell Gold. They are considered more of a "big box" brand name (in the same category as PB, Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel).....but our experience with them has been all around a positive one. Really good customer service and for the price, great quality. We chose them over some of the other retailers because we did read and hear more positive feedback than negative. And so far, that's also been our experience. I've seen them specified quite a bit in several of the design projects here on Houzz too. Price point wise, you'll probably see about a $1k to $2k difference in comparison to a similar size sofa with a couple of the showroom brands mentioned above. That's a relatively significant savings for most people....so definitely worth checking out too IMO. Looks like a store called Chestnut Hill Home in Cincinnati carries them.
