I would suggest using a different looking flooring option. You will not be able to match the hardwood floor and it will be obvious that you tried without success. Have fun with it, I am sure you will find the perfect solution.

I would suggest making sure the two floorings have the same color tones so they tie into each other. Wood looking tile can be installed next to hardwood floors without it competing. If you find a wood tile you like you can use it to pick the new stain for the hardwood. Flooring doesn't have to look exactly alike to flow well.

Thank you so much. I am curious, Do you have an opinion of the latest vinyl flooring? Also looks very much like wood. Large planks but no grouting. We are considering a darker wood with medium tones in it much like my wood floors. It will contrast but still tie in I think.

I personally like luxury vinyl. The new technology out today gives it more of the look and feel of hardwood at a lower cost then real hardwood or tile. It is more durable then hardwood and softer underfoot then tile plus it is usually waterproof if that is a concern.

Luxury vinyl is more complicated then tile for radiant floors, but it can be done. With radiant flooring only certain manufacturers say that their luxury vinyl product can be installed over it so check with the manufacture. They will usually have guidelines of the temperature and humidity that should be kept at to help your floor last the longest, prevent damage and to maintain any warranty.

Regarding radiant heating, some vinyl plank allows for it. It depends on the plasticizer used (DOTP is preferable), and also on weather the PVC is virgin or recycled (virgin is more stable). There will be specific instructions for how to install on radiant heat provided by the manufacturer, which are not very different from instructions for other flooring products (turn on new systems for a day or two before installing, install at a lower temperature, gradually increase to desired temperature after installation, etc).

Also, you should always look for FloorScore certified vinyl plank, but especially when using on radiant heat. The last thing you want is your floor off-gassing, and third-party FloorScore certification can ensure nothing compromises your indoor air quality.
