I'd look for sales in your department stores. I bought expensive sferra sheets that are just ok....I prefer the supima percale ones I got from Macy's for 1/6 the cost. Got them on sale and January is usually the time of year the bedding sales are on, so you've got good timing.

I have bought many items from "The Company Store." I am always pleased with the quality, but their stuff is PRICEY!

SchweitzerLinen.com has some nice quilts. Peacock Alley and Garnet Hill are online bedding sites, but I cannot give an opinion on their quality.

I just bought a cotton quilt from Plow & Hearth and love it. Some are on sale now too.

Comforters recently bought at Macys. Got a great quilt at Home Goods. And one of our favorite comforters was from Home Goods. Honestly, it was better quality than the one I have now from Macys, but I do like Macys linens.

I think fairly simple us the way to go, so she can add decorative patterned cushion, throw etc.

Bluebell, I'll have her take a look at the PB linen quilts as well. Velvet is a little heavy, but it's really for decorative purpose only and they're also at cottage in summer so a heavier look is fine for fall/ winter.

I keep coming back to Pine Cone Hill. I have owned Rosary (a cotton sateen quilt) for about a decade. It comes in ivory and white. Their entire line is beautiful--also have Madeleine in gold. Terrific style, quality and materials. You can sometimes get sales--and you can go to Neiman Marcus or (I think) Gumps to see more.

I second Schweitzer Linens, I have bought a God deal of bedding from them over the years. Peacock Alley is a good brand; their cotton twill sheets are sturdy, with a good hand, and iron very nicely.

I don't know if you have it in Canada, but Tuesday Morning is my go-to for bedding. You have to look frequently, and it works for me because I like neutral colors. They carry Sferra and Peacock Alley, which are great brands.

Found it! I was able to locate one of the quilts we'd been looking for at Pottery Barn in Calgary. They're shipping it now, so fingers crossed it works for my mom.

It's the PB Washed Velvet w/ silk trim quilt & shams. Now to find a couple of decorative cushions ( or fabric)...my next shopping mission:)
