I would reconsider furniture layout. A photo or blueprint of the room would be helpful.

Is it possible to hang a throw, quilt or other fabric piece over the back to hide most of it?

How about a bench? Or a short sofa table that only goes on the end of the sofa that does not recline, then put a basket at the end of the sofa table (behind the reclining part of your sofa) to complete the items. Maybe a throw over the reclining sofa back.

If you decide to address the sofa, the Stickley 400 Series has recliners inside the sofa where the back of the furniture doesn't move.

How about a bar height table with stools under for more seating?

Hi, I'm not the original poster but I came here with the same issue, lol. I may go with a lower short table for part of the couch and a plant or something else to balance for the rest, like another suggested. I could do my long credenza behind it but I have to have about 8" of space between back of couch and back of sofa...deciding if it looks weird or not at the moment.
