There is/was nothing you could do. It is completely weather related. They should bloom on schedule next spring, however, provided the winter of 2016 follows more normal patterns.

Coming in on this old discussion, since the subject is the same as my question! Same zone, 7b.

I also bought some bulbs in pots late last spring, on sale of course, after they'd bloomed. As lazy as I can be, I never got them into the ground and thought they were dead or rotted.

I just noticed today that not only are they putting out leaves, there are small blossoms on them!

So, now that we're facing cold weather, should I plant them, anyway? As deep as normal, even with the growth and blossom on them?

These are Woodstocks and I love them, so if I can save them (from my own sloth) I'd like to!

Any advice for this late blooming?

They aren’t late blooming. They’re early blooming. If they’re inside enjoy them in their pots If they’re outside you could leave them in the pots or plant them.
